Inspiration from a magazine...

I don’t buy many magazines any more but did buy one this week- a house and garden magazine featuring aspirational houses, gardens and food - you know the type!

These photos of local actor Robyn Malcolm in her home appealed. Pattern mixing, textures, socks and sandals. Not to everyone’s taste but

It is an autumn look to my eye. I don’t have all the components to make it work but I love the insouciant way she makes the colours and patterns work.

I am not home to try but I wondered if this combination could work? With blue tights?

Or maybe now with no tights and no faux fur?

Have you seen any photos online or in magazines that have inspired you recently?

I absolutely think this would work. Love the inspiration pics too. The faux fur might work on a cool evening. I recently used a (wool) scarf as a stole on a cool evening with a sleeveless top.

I’ve actually been doing a pattern mix self challenge this Spring and now into Summer. With warm weather I feel like pattern and colour mixing are the only options for changing things up (since layering and texture is harder in the heat).

I was looking at magazines thinking I still love deep colour, but more muted now. Across the board from fashion to interior decoration... lol, looking at you, my bright orange Kitchen Aid mixer, what can I do with you?...

Mind, I say this but just bought a citron Uniqlo sweatshirt that I’m really loving...

The pin below (it’s Megan Markle before she was DOS) is in my wheel house. I’ve got the baggy sweater and merlot pants, but I need the silver loafers. I used to have a pair, but wore them out. No suitable candidates in my closet ATM. Maybe with my white iridescent Converse?

Would like to see it properly in action, Sal- although the inspiration is quite tonal it may also work as dots are classic, very neutral and smaller scale -but wow, camisole, sandals and furry coat -(other than formal/dressy wouldn't be a bit seasonable confusing?

Blogger Alyssa Beltempo does some good YouTube posts on how to capture the vibe from a fashion pic if you are interested to watch .

Cardiff Girl - I love Alyssa Beltempo's videos. Such good ideas about how to take the spirit of an outfit and adapt for your own existing pieces. I am not sure this one will work (the length of the top and the skirt might make it tricky) but I will experiment.

This is a great outfit - I love the colours too. I have not read any magazines in such a long time...I used to read magazines at the hair dresser, but now because of Covid, they are not providing them. YLF is my source of style inspiration.

I really miss our glossy NZ fashion magazines Fashion Quarterly and Simply You I liked them for inspiration even though I almost never bought anything in them as the clothes all cost so much. And sometimes they were mean...
Like Bijou I do mainly get inspo from YLF these days but there was just something about a local glossy...

I usually buy some fall magazines for inspiration. This fall I did not get any due to the virus. Everything was closed, so no recent inspiration except Angie’s posts here. Maybe next year. Til then I will mostly wear the h—k out of what I have.
