What would Joan Jett do is a fitting mantra for me.

I actually have a lot of freedom in what I wear. The biggest thing holding me back is they don't make a lot of kickass rocker chick wear in my size and I'd like it to be more flattering.

I also want to look more I'm in the band than I'm with the band.

Ines de la Fressange's doppelgänger here. In my fantasy life, people would wonder if she shopped in my closet.

Mmmm hard one.
I would love to wear more ball gowns and cocktail dresses.....
I would love to LOVE every piece in my wardrobe rather than about 50% of them.

My fantasy life means having a chaffeur. I really don't like to drive.

I think I'd go for nonchalant elegance. A lot of combining luxurious fabrics like silk and cashmere with something just rugged enough to ground them. Dresses that look like they could maybe be eveningwear, maybe loungewear. About the same rich, deep colors I wear now, only with more cream because I wouldn't get things dirty.

I'm pretty sure I'm Italian in this fantasy life. I also have the kind of figure where I can throw on anything without particularly worrying about fit or flattery and it'll still look good.

I don't know that I'd dress that differently: I'd probably just have as much variety as I wanted. Lots of duplicates in different colors and more expensive brands. And I echo Desmo April - there are some lovely designer plus size brands that I'd love to indulge in but are just too pricey for my blood.

I'd also have some stuff custom made for me. That would be awesome.

I'd dress much more sensually—silk camis, leather pants, curve-skimming tops. In my fantasy life, I'd have money to get facials and manicures/pedicures as often as I'd like. I'd have enough energy to put makeup on every day. And I'd wear high heels whenever I wanted, at whatever heel height I wanted, because my feet would never, ever get tired or hurt!

Ever see "The Tenth Victim"? I can't recommend it enough! 60s Italian Mod. In fact, in a parallel universe, these would be my bridesmaids outfits.

Ha, Doubleh, those are awesome!!

Fuchsia! Mod! Cutouts!

In my fantasy life, I am "dividing my time" between Paris, New York, London, and various writing retreats all over the world. Naturally,I have the perfect capsule wardrobe for each location. And, naturally, it fits into a carry-on bag -- doesn't wrinkle -- and gives me a multitude of unexpected options.

After all, I've had long visits with Angie and other Fabbers to get these wardrobe (s) into perfect shape (and, of course, to indulge in tea and cake at the same time).

And of course, in the extremely unlikely event that I discover a wardrobe hole, I know exactly where to go to have fun shopping in every urban location that I happen to hit! Didn't bring it? No problem! Go buy it!!

Meanwhile, I'm also well equipped for hiking the mountains, swimming the lakes and oceans, and biking on hardly discovered routes in faraway places.

I love to walk, so naturally, my fantasy life includes the perfect walking shoes. They are fashionable, flattering whether I'm wearing jeans, trousers, dresses, or shorts, and they are perfectly comfortable in sun, rain, and maybe even snow or sleet. (Heck, this IS a fantasy, after all.)

In my fantasy life I can wear flared and bootleg or wide leg trousers all year round with impunity. Rain? Sow? What is that? My pant hems always stay miraculously dry.

Pretty, sexy, yet supportive bras are easy to find in my perfect size. My undies never crawl up and my socks never creep down.

Pumps and slingbacks and even D'Orsay flats stay on my feet. Tall boots are a cinch to fit on my short, relatively slim calves.

White or light bottoms? Not a problem, not even in winter, not even in the slush! Dresses without hose? Whenever I want -- no worries about winter cold. Sleeves and hems are always the perfect length! Waists hit at the right spot. I even "fill out" a wrap dress!

Oh, and I can switch between gear and regular clothes within a moment's notice in a magic phone booth.

The best part of my fantasy life? The clothes I'm tired of miraculously fit someone who truly needs and wants them, so I don't feel guilty passing them on. And the ones I buy have all been ethically made, and their production has meant that somebody in the world lives better, partly because of my purchase. And none of that production has harmed the environment in any way.

And the designers are all feminists who "get" women's bodies.

Hanky panky...of course!

Suz you clearly have the most vivid imagery for your very full fantasy life. You know the Spongebob episode where he and Patrick take a box and make it into a completely different world with their "imaginations" [cue widespread hands]? That's you!

I think my fantasy life would mostly be career-based---- a more ideal work situation would go a long way, and I would throw a better job in for the SO, and several family members and friends. I'd be making industry standard in a purpose-built collections' facility with a collection focused on my specialty, learning skills from seasoned curators and conservation staff and being able to give back to the community. The SO would be making a more competitive wage with more opportunities and less forced overtime and odd hours and schedules.

It would mean having a bit more money to built my wardrobe--- I think in most ways my staples would stay the same (denim, boots, cotton, leather, and wool) but I'd buy high quality in the things I wear into the ground and upgrade things. I'd have a variety of coats and boots, great lounge wear, and the ability to travel to larger cities to shop, and just be able to pick up artisan pieces while traveling or when I come into contact with artists at work-- my Native American jewelry collection, my scarves, hats, and other special souvenir collections would be much bigger. I wouldn't have a huge wardrobe, but I wouldn't have to do laundry twice a week like I often fall prey to and between an increase in quality and having more clothing I wouldn't have to replace most items each year. I would own several handbags and a real suitcase. I'd spend more on self-maintenance and gear, too.

Mostly I think in my fantasy life I'd be happier at work, get to travel and experience more, and be in a position to have a more comfortable home situation. Maybe a nice little 1 bed house or apartment with a loft for a desk to paint at with room for an air mattress for guests, a small walk-in closet, some art on the walls, a patio, and a 2-butt kitchen-- plus a gym membership.

Aw...thank you, Mo. Spongebob was my DD's best buddy for a while in preschool.

My jeans and boots thing wouldn't change much; I would still be an accessory hound. But every garment would fit perfectly and hang just so. Just think of the leather, all that smooth, supple leather...

In my fantasy life I would live in Paris and work for Dior or Chanel....maybe a master seamstress. I would dress a bit Isabella Rossellini....romantic, sophisticated but comfortable. Black would look good on me with my very dark hair. I would own a few Haute Couture gowns a look enough like Isabella to be able to wear them. I would have French feet too....meaning I would be able to effortlessly glide around in pumps or little ballet flats with no foot issues.

Heels heels heels heels. 4 inchers. Because I can't even wear any heel over 1.5 inches and without a sturdy rigid platform!!!!

Ever seen the movie, Underworld? The way the vampires dress: that's how I would dress basically some Victoriana mixed in with leather and hardware.

... And heels...

In my fantasy life my clothes would incorporate just the right amount of quirk.
A slight hommage to the 80's with a secretary dress or midi skirt with Edwardian-style blouse, day-time gloves, volume on volume, sharp-shoulders.
And I'm still crazy over Chanel's 2012 pre-fall Indian-inspired collection. White-on-white, brocade, lux fabrics, skirt over slim pants - swoon.
And of course, everything would be available as soon as I think of it, fitting perfectly!

Mo this is too much fun.

In my fantasy life (well one of them) I am a criminal profiler who wears Rick Owens, Complex Geometries clothing and Acne and LD Tuttle footwear. When I deliver lectures and training at Quantico I add a Theory collarless blazer to add structure and authority.

For interviewing suspects I would switch out my black for blues and create a slightly softer look in order to create a sense of trust and relate-abliity.

So I would have my general work wear capsule and then some additional suitable business pieces I could mix in. I am kind of into the one capsule fits all concept

Oh Angie, me neither... hate it. I want a chauffer too!

Anyway, back to clothes... I would like an opportunity to wear a ball gown or evening gown. I have never ever worn either, or even a cocktail dress Also I just would like more opportunities to actually go out of the house and start wearing more of what I already have. Plus lots of cashmere and silk please

As I mainly live in my imaginary world inside my head most of the time I also dress for that world. (And people think being an introvert doesn't have benefits )
I would probably like to have the kind of body you can put a potato sack on and look good.
I would probably (definitely) would like to have a different career, travel more.

In my fantasy life, I'm a bit of a rock star, but without the annoying paparazzi. Not only do I go to Paris, Tokyo, New York, etc., on a regular basis, but I have more occasions to dress up and look really fabulous but also a bit edgy.

I've gotten better about not buying things like fancy tops, cocktail dresses and 5" heels, but the reality is that even my most casual skirts and 3.5" heels are not getting worn much. Hmm, even in my fantasy life, I still want to be able to walk 3 miles at a moment's notice or get down on the ground to take photos of something interesting. But a few more dressy occasions a year would be really fun. With my husband's shift away from the corporate world and into ranching, our life just seems to keep getting more casual. Even something like those new red pony booties will not see the Texas dust!

My fantasy life also involves lots of remote and rugged travel and activity too, though, so I guess I'd need fab gear, if such a thing exists!

This is so fun to read!

Now that I'm moving up north, I feel like my fantasy life that consists of wearing primarily cosy woolens, mixed with silks of course, and finished with comfy boots, can actually come true. Texas weather was my big constraint (other than budget, but I enjoy shopping secondhand), and now I'll have as much winter as I could want. Yay! Since I can dress however I like most days, weather aside, my actual style is pretty close to my fantasy one.

That being said, in my fantasy life, there'd definitely be lots of ethically made, super comfortable shoes in taupes, greys, and other blonde book-ending shades. And all undies would be (ethically) made from organic cotton or merino wool or some other sustainable, body-friendly fiber, and available in higher rises (um, guess what I'm fruitlessly shopping for right now? lol).

Oh and I'd wear more dresses, because they'd all fit me perfectly, instead of the waist always being too high or the hemline too short or the lining too icky feeling. I'd especially wear fit & flare dresses layered over long sleeve tops, a look I love but don't wear often because after 3+ years of hunting I have yet to find the right dress. I'm hoping to learn to sew my own: I've given up on retail!

These are great! I got SO much more than I asked for I need to dream bigger, I think!
I was thinking now that we have our fantasy selves in mind, what can we do to get a step closer to seeing her come out more often? (barring hiring chauffers - but hey, maybe just having your significant other drive more is a step?)

Great way to take our fun musings to the next step, Mo!

For me, I think giving myself permission to add quirk & retro touches to my at-home outfits (most of the time), and finding a few ways to dress more medieval maiden (whether attending a Faire, wearing a couple outfits for that style persona occasionally, or inventing an occasion to wear the formal medieval-style gown.

I think I could likely dress a lot closer to my desired fantasy self if I just . . . let go. Besides climate I don't have many constraints beyond those I've mentally self imposed or subconsciously let my loved ones slowly mold me with. I can absolutely be a lot edgier. I am not too concerned with my societal norms and I don't have children to embarrass That just leaves the BF to embarrass!!

In my fantasy life, I'd be able to find the stuff that is in my head. I'd be taller and could run in heeled boots.

My fantasy wardrobe would be full of loden green and camel lambswool. Two colours that I cannot wear that adore. My shoulders would be a little slimmer and my ribcage not as pronounced so I could actually buy tops that fit all over instead of fitting my shoulders and hanging everywhere else. I miss lambswool as you cannot find it anymore, it is my favourite of the wools. My feet would also be wider, too hard to find shoes with such narrow feet and ridiculously narrow heels.
Most of all it's the colour though. I adore warm tones and cannot wear them.

In my fantasy life, I would live in Paris and dress so effortlessly Parisian that everyone would assume I am local. And my feet wouldn't hurt all the time.

ETA - And I would have a hair stylist on site to get me sorted every day. I HATE doing my hair. Almost as much as Angie hates driving!

I'd forgotten about the non-clothes aspect of styling: for sure I'd have a hairdresser on call to blow out my hair whenever I wanted, a dermatologist, a makeup artist. I always thought the way that actresses can borrow fine jewelry for events was cool - wouldn't it be fun to be able to borrow a couple g's of diamond necklace whenever you wanted?

I'd travel more and let someone else deal with all the bags and logistics, and shop all over the world. And while we're at it I'd be a slightly smaller size. I don't want to be model sized, just small enough so that fancy brands make stuff in my size.
