In which I wear all my boots - YouLookFab Forum

I challenged myself to wear all 13 pairs of non-gear boots in my closet, and here are the results. This took around 3 weeks, since I had some days where I repeated boots and some days that I didn't take a WIW photo. Still, I managed to wear them all with little trouble (I do love my boots!) and here is the result.

What I learned:
--I have a good selection of boots with lots of variety.
--I was able to wear all the pairs all day including my normal 2+ miles of walking plus working and walking around in the lab, so I've successfully managed to purge all the really uncomfortable pairs, hooray.
--I would like to replace the burgundy low heeled booties (in the first photo) and the black platform clog booties (photo 12) with better quality but similar looking boots.
--I do not have a sleek black dark boot. Hence the search for the gold zipper boots!
--I don't wear my brown spat boots (#8) because of the color. But I really should make an effort to wear them more because they are fab!
--I REALLY LOVE BOOTS!

I only see one photo, but I have terrible internet connection so it could be on my end. I love your epiphanies and that all your boots are wearable and not pretty things that don't get worn.

EDIT: duh, the thumbnail hadn't opened yet. Now I see all pics in one!

I know you love black but you look really good in the light color ones too. I really love the brown.

I might try this too.... I love all my boots but some of them haven't left the house in a long time!!

How fun! I love a bunch-lot of these, but #2 grabbed my attention right away! You think up such great challenges. I always want to participate, but then I remember that my tiny wardrobe would make most of them last half a week at best.

Wow - that is an impressive boot collection! But I do think boots are well -justified in this climate, and if you love them as much as you do, then they are well worth it.

You're a model adopter of would-be orphans! What a fantastic way to challenge yourself and clarify doubts about your wardrobe's look and functionality at once. I should do this sometimes as groundwork for purging, or as a checkpoint after, like you've done. Your second point --- that you now only have boots you can *really* walk in --- has my utmost admiration.

I also found it interesting and surprising that you should lack the seemingly most basic one --- the simple sleek black. But I guess this happens when we love a particular category of garment a lot --- we veer to the most fun, eyecatching examples because we're buying for love, not logistics. I realized I did this too when I kept *not* buying a plain black pump or ballet shoe, and instead kept buying coloured and trimmed and anything-but-blah-black shoes for a long time. Good idea to make it a little special with the gold zipper and have it earn its keep though!

Thanks, ladies. I really do recommend this type of "wear all the things" exercise because it forces you to examine whether or not things are orphans and to think about how to de-orphanize them. I have to admit I picked the things that I wear a lot of in the winter though - boots and jackets. I would do OK with jeans/pants too most likely, but things like sweaters, tops, and skirts are more out of control in my closet and many of the skirts and tops are not seasonally appropriate anyway.

Mani, so I actually did have a tall black riding boot last year but I tossed them halfway through the winter because they were old and not very comfortable and I was just never wearing them. So I guess I don't really need one to make my wardrobe work, but on the other hand I could see how useful it would be.

Great one Diana and it's a nice reminder of the tactic I used before - themed weeks. Going through a collection of something really opens your eyes up to what does work and why. I remember 'scanning' through my skirts this way, even after only 5 days it would be very obvious what I had strong(er) preferences for and why.

I love the collage but would not mind pic-heavy post with all detailed photos at all Why deny us of indulging in your fab style on a bigger scale

Impressive! I guess you need a lot of space to keep all those boots. I'm at the other end of the spectrum: I do not have a single pair of boots! But that will change soon, I hope, as I am awaiting the arrival of a pair I have bought on eBay.
