I'm revisiting the comments today now that I have a little time. So interesting how the opinions vary! I am glad you all are being honest and giving thoughtful responses. I think these leggings (maybe in combination with the long tunic sweater) are messing with perception of my proportions. The skirt is definitely hitting mid-thigh (or a little lower) on me. There is a lot of leg under the top of the skirt and the bottom of the sweater, trust me. There's a short little torso up there. I can actually scootch the leggings/skirt down a bit to get more length out of it, but this is where it fell with the waistband more or less at my waist (actually a little lower).
Oh, gryffin, I did wonder about how the BCBG jacket would work with these. It's a lot of black, but that's not a dealbreaker for me at all. I wonder if the hems would compete with one another.
Sveta, your point is interesting. I do not like typical tunic + leggings looks on me. I like this look better because it feels like more coverage. To me, this feels more intentional, and less like I forgot to put on pants. I guess I've also seen the tunic + leggings look done to death around here, and I like a slightly different spin on it.
Angie, I was thinking about what tops I have that meet the criteria of having some combination of length and structure to pair with these, and I hit a bit of a stumbling block. My long tops tend to be quite UNstructured to wear with skinnies. So I'm not even sure what a longer structured top would look like. If anyone would like to share examples, I would find that helpful! One thing I don't want to do is add bottoms to my wardrobe that require a whole new category of tops to wear with them.
All of your comments are great food for thought. Thank you!
I may or may not get these leggings -- I'm still undecided. I'm learning that sometimes it's enough for me to try something and find that it's not disastrous on me, and maybe even pretty good, without thinking it has to become part of my wardrobe.
