In the mood for a closet cleaning- what are your current staples?

Hello Hello YLFers!

It's been a long time since I posted- been very busy with my PhD. Just a few months to go.

I'm in desperate need of a closet cleaning. I've managed to accumulate a lovely collection of dresses but most other things are quite lacking. I think I need to be quite brutal in culling a lot of things that I just don't wear and start over with a few pieces that I really like.

What are your current workhorses? The things you just can't live without

Hey Megan!

I can't live without my fit-and-flare dresses! My closet is full of them! And of course the requesite toppers (cardigans and blazers) to make sure I'm nice and warm in the winter. I also have a collection of belts and costume jewellery to make my dresses pop!

Yay for a mostly-dress wardrobe!

I'd say drapey dresses and sandals for the warm season. Some good jeans, boots, and a great jacket and sweater for cold season. As for extras, cuff bracelets are big for me this year, and I've gotten back to belts after years without.

Jackets and cardigans are definitely on my 'need to be added' list. I'm dreadfully short on them. Found a lovely blazer in Zara last week and will go back to get it ASAP. Hoping my favourite cardigans will go on sale after Christmas too

Dresses are the best- pop one on with a necklace or scarf and voila....you look polished

Totally! I love it when people always think that I spend -so- much time dressing! It's a dress! It's one thing - it's so much easier than coordinating different pieces

with some weight gain and a previous closet purge, my staples are leggings over tunics that used to be worn dresses.

My current workhorses: tapered leg woven-with-stretch trousers in navy and black; tees; thin merino wool cardigans in black and eggplant; leather jackets in brown and black; long cashmere scarves; booties/shooties in black, gunmetal, and cognac.

There's probably not a day when I don't wear one or all of these items. ("Business casual" workplace.)

Hey, you just had a birthday. Happy birthday! (I was checking where you lived). I envy you your summer dress collection. I love unlined cotton blazers that can be tossed in the wash. In the spring, I'd like to get a pair of slouchy silk or rayon cropped trousers, maybe in a color. I've been living in skirts/tops for the past two summers. Time for a change!

A pair of slouchy skinny BF jeans.

Scarves.

Looser fitting pullovers sweaters (jumpers).

Booties.

I bought my first pair of Paige Hidden Hills a few months ago and have been loving those, and two pairs of Levis, midrise skinny and bootcuts, that have been terrific... a bit of polyester, so no bagging out... hooray! I have such a casual life that great jeans are my workhorse.

Here are things I got that serve me well:

A pair of slouch ankle tapered black pants.
A soft-material 3/4 sleeves dark neutral jacket.
One pair of nice fitting skinny jeans.
A current style pair of booties in a light neutral/ another one in black.
A cute electric blue raincoat with a hoodie.
A pair of skinny stretch faux leather black pants (Surprisingly versatile and handy, adds immediate style, pairs with different footwear easily).

At the moment, I'm making heavy use of:

- slouchy skinnies
- "boyfriend-style" cardigans
- cap-sleeve stretchy tops
- short boots
- oversize vee neck pullovers
