in the dressing room

I had a half hour at a real store today! lol. Well, the Beall's Outlet, but still. I spied this dress and gave it a whirl. The colors aren't exactly me, but I was drawn to it anyway.
Then I remembered a near miss dress from Alloy a few season back. Very similar fit. As I recall, the Alloy dress had no stretch in the waist and so was very awkward to get on and off.
Wondering why this style is appealing to me. Should I maybe pursue this cut for my next day dress?

The cut of the dress may work for you bit I am not fond of the print on you, even if it was in a different color. Maybe a solid color in that style?

I don't care for the orange, and am not buying that dress, but intrigued at the idea of that style dress. I'm wondering if part of what I like is the waist placement seems in line with my actual waist for once lol.
Here is more of a print I'd like, but a different style. By the same company.

It seems that the neckline, the length of the dress, and the waist, all suit you; I can see why you'd want to try it. I guess the other questions are, do you want it in a pattern, or solid, and with sleeves or without. I like the neckline of the dress in your second post, too.

Columbine, I hadn't factored in the low v neck plus sleeves are shared by both dresses as well. Hmmm, very interesting. I almost wish I'd kept the Alloy and just had a zip or elastic put in or something for easy on/off lol. Oh well.
I think I will explore this look further. I do feel the need for a print. I have mostly solid dresses.

I was thinking like Columbine, the neckline, length and waist definition are all attributes you seem drawn to. Along with the print style AND the fact that it's an easy-on semi-warm weather option. I think it's worth pursuing the style for sure!

I like the style of the dressing room dress but agree that I can't really see you in those colors. I like the tie-dye print that you posted in the comments as well. Do you think sleeves are necessary? I notice that the dressing room dress has sleeves but the online one doesn't. It has a very interesting neckline too.

I had to do a double take when I saw that it was you in a dressing room! Out of practice a bit with the selfies, I see;-). I love the dress you posted in the remarks. I think this shape is very hard to pull off in a flattering way, but if anyone can do it, you can. Looking forward to seeing what you end up getting!

I knew the colors/print of the try on dress weren't me, but I just had to try it on anyway. That's the weird pull I'm talking about.
I don't think the next day dress needs to have sleeves, but it's okay if it does. The more I think about it, it's really the waist placement. I have so much trouble with dresses not hitting me in the right spot. It's probably no coincidence that all of these are Juniors brands. Jackets fit me so much better in those sizes, too. Not quite petite, but not regular misses size either.
