In search of a very specific top

I would really, really like a knitted top like this: sleeveless, boat neck in the front, deep cowl neck on the back. Ideally black, but am very flexible about color. Has anyone seen anything even remotely similar?

That's a cute one Maya! I will keep it in mind. The quality does not bother me actually. But I would like a really deep cowl in the back ( below the bra band).

Tanya, could the sleeves be removed from the one you linked to? Have you made friends with any brilliant tailors who could comment on whether or not that would be possible?

Michelle, I am fairly certain that they could be removed. But that top is quite expensive ( $100 for a thin knit), so when you add the tailoring cots and everything, I am not sure it would be worth it; since I would only wear it for going out that does not happen that often.

He he Laura, very clever of you. I guess I could if I find one that has deep enough cowl and is cut the right way. I actually already have a black sleeveless cowl neck top, but the cowl is not deep enough.

Inge, that is a gorgeous, gorgeous top. The banded bottom will not work for my intended purpose - to wear with a certain ballroom skirt that dips low in the front and has a high slit as well. Nevertheless, I like it so much that I might have to get it anyway, and keep looking for the right one for my skirt.

The occasion is a big ballroom social for the 4th of July. Also, I have decided that I need a couple of summery 'date' tops, that do not expose anything in a front, but put focus on shoulders, back etc.

Tanya, have you thought of having one made for you? It doesn't sound like it would be that much in material costs and the the pattern wouldn't be complex. Just a thought.

AJ, that's a good idea! I will probably not have time to get it done by the 4th of July, but might give it a try later if I can find a good tailor.

Tam, so far I can only sigh when it comes to summer dates. Why do some people expect to be invited in after the first date I will never know. But I guess that's an entirely different topic.
