In search of a topper - YouLookFab Forum

I discovered a wardrobe hole: a midweight summer jacket for our cold summer evenings.

I want something I can shove in my bag in the morning and wear on my way home. That means it has to be fairly casual, but not too casual for my style. Wool, cotton, or a synthetic if it's the right one. Many of my interesting tops have structured shoulders or sleeves that won't work under my biker jacket or cardigans, so a main requirement is loose shoulders/sleeves to fit the tops that don't work with my other jackets.

One inspiration is this drapey Zara trench:

(I do have a men's black denim jacket with big bulky sleeves but it's very unflattering with most outfits. Maybe I should make that one work, but I want something one level nicer.)

Any inspiration? I'm looking for ideas I haven't thought of.

How about an army green anorak type thing? Would not look as bad coming out of a bag at the end of a day as a trench would.

I can hang it on a coat hook during the day - I just mean that it needs to be easily transportable on my warm morning bike ride. But it's true that it'll get crumpled. An anorak might be fun, and the Uniqlo one is along those lines... maybe I'll go try it on.

Greyscale, the link the the Helmut Lang jacket didn't work for me, but was it this (an Angie pick). And did you see Angie's list of toppers? I tried the HL sweatshirt on yesterday, and liked it, but wasn't sure if it was too dark for summer. However, I just noticed that shop bop has it in fog! I just bought this, which looks better on (and unzipped) than it does on the model. But maybe you're looking for something warmer?

BTW, the only drawback to the HL sweatshirt, is that the sleeves are snug on muscular arms (in case yours are like mine…shapely, but not string beans).

Marmee, it's a similar jacket but with looser sleeves (like you, the sweatshirt sleeves are a bit tight on me). Here's another link that might work. It was on Gilt yesterday but sold out in my size while I was debating.

Love the HL sonar wool jackets.

I like the Gilt version, although I'm not crazy about the belt hanging down. I love the Totokaelo jacket, although your arms might get cold if you're wearing short sleeves.

FYI, that Uniqlo anorak looks cute on the hanger but it's cut for someone really pear-shaped and tall.
