I would not give up on 7FAM. Try their jeans cut for petites. The Lexi A pocket is a great boot cut jean, lower rise than these and the knee break is perfect for petites (I am 5'4" and wear these with low heels). You may or may not need to hem them depending on your chosen heel height. They also have a skinny jean tailored for petites, I can't recall what it's called.
The jeans you're wearing look like they are an odd wash and too high waisted for you.
The other jean I recommend for you is Hudson. The back pockets give an illusion of more shapely rear end.
I have a pair of NYDJ and find them to be way too long in the rise. They are uncomfortable on me even though the fabric and quality are great. I like the way they make my rear look, though. I don't think they look like Mom jeans, because they are well made and nicely cut. If you like a long rise, then they are for you. They come up to or above my belly button on me. (Quite different from Dakota.) Basically, waist level jeans on me.
Unfortunately there is a lot of trial and error, but once you find a brand you like, I would stick with it.
