Since Mothers' Day is coming up, I wanted to ask you all these 2 questions.

My late mother's style...

1. Like her, I: don't have pierced ears; love a wide leather belt with an interesting buckle; am not a big shopper.
2. Unlike her: She was much petite than I so different proportions looked better on her (eg. cropped jackets) than on me and vice/versa; she always looked freshly pressed while I tend to be a bit more rumpled, no matter how much I try to look neat; she loved bright pink lipstick and it looked fabulous on her... not so lovely on me.

My mother and I couldn't be more different in every aspect. I am not sure if we share any style similarities at all.

We both love jewelery:)

I suspect I am the exception to the rule. My daughter would have a long list of similarities to me.

My mom and I have very similar tastes in everything.

One difference I can think of: She loves HUGE, bold jewelry. While I do love statement pieces, I prefer my jewelry to be a bit tamer.

I think the only thing my mom and I have in common is our mutual love of warm, bright pinks. Other than that, we have zip in common.

She likes dainty jewelry, floral scents, and admires ultra classic styles though she does not embrace them for herself. None of the above are my taste at all. There is nothing wrong with any of those choices, it's just not for me.

I don't think she has a defined style to be honest. It seems like she would love to wear tailored pants, structured jackets, crisp wovens, etc. but it just doesn't fit into her lifestyle. Sometimes she is drawn to more bohemian pieces, especially when she goes to India, and those seem to fit her lifestyle better.

She always expresses her um, disapproval of how much money and time I spend on clothes...but ultimately she seems happy that I am having fun and embracing the freedom I have at my size and my age.

Sometimes she lets her coworkers influence her too much. At least I think so. On days when the doctor is out or there are fewer patients, all her coworkers come in their sweats and fleece vests and she feels the need to follow suit because "that's what the girls all do." I think my mom does not embrace her age enough. She could be (and should be) wearing much more sophisticated, higher quality pieces. But she has a LOT of things that are much too casual and cheap and just not flattering. I have tried every which way to push her in the right direction, but she is very stubborn (much like someone else I know).

1. We both "dress up." My mom would never appear in public in gear (unless it was called for), sweats, or other supercasual clothing. She would have her "public" clothes, and then change into her "house" clothes when she got home. I do the same. We both have a taste for drama in clothes; hers more in the realm of color and pattern, mine in cut.

2. She is very classic, and I'm more edgy and boho. Being from a frugal era, she tends to keep clothes for a long time and wear "dated" clothes (unlike trendy me). But she manages to do so stylishly

1. Like her: We both love shopping!!!!!! She always tought me how important was to dressing well, be demanding with the fit of the pieces and always choose a good quality fabric, good pieces with good details.
2. Unlike her: She is petite like me, but she insists that longer skirts are better, she hates when I buy trendy items at Zara or H&M.

Hmmm..

1. like her: well, about the only similarity is that neither of us have pierced ears (although I have in the past and will again when the princess is a little older and less likely to rip them out).

2. unlike her: I'm a little edgier and generally sleeker - my mom seems to have fallen into "old lady mode" a bit early. It's a shame, because she was edgy once upon a time. She wore a lace tunic and lace pants to her senior prom, even though they were told any girl showing up in pants would be sent home.

Like her: we both find shopping stressful, and go for unadorned styles

Unlike her: Mum has a more sporty style whereas I like more tailored and formal looks, likes trousers and jeans more than the skirts and dresses I prefer, loves button downs which I find difficult. She prefers low rise waistlines while I prefer them higher.

Like her:
- bright colours
- chunky jewellery (we often swap jewellery our tastes are so similar)
- leggings (she just bought her first pair age 63 - go Mum!!!)

Unlike her:
- my colour choices are waaaaay more subdued, she will go for lime green, orange, neon blue etc
- she wears a lot more ruffles and florals than I do. A lot of prints she loves I have to forcibly drag her away from!!
- she hates my doc boots with a passion
- she thinks its is passable to wear crocs out to dinner as long as they match the rest of her outfit i.e. bright pink ARGH!!!!

1. We both LOVE clothes and fashion. We both like the colour black, bold jewelry and great tailoring. We both are slightly absent-minded and accident prone, so have trouble retaining "polish". We both prize excellent quality, vintage items, comfy shoes and funky specs.

2. I'd say that my Mum's style is less rigidly defined than mine; she's more likely to try things that are out of her "box", like artsy, exotic or bohemian items. She wears more colour and pattern than I do. Also, no matter how hard I try, there are certain things that she doesn't "get" yet: PPL for one, and importance of a great haircut. But I'm working on it.

hummm... we have Totally different Body shapes she's pear and i'm a Rectangle... she's tall I'm short.. and yes shes's my mom!!! jajaja

Like: love white crisp shirts with jeans, with cool accesories...

Un like: I'm more fashion forward maye be, she's more clasic and and executive like!!!

My mom and I couldn't be more different in body type if we tried. She has always been short, small- boned, and curvaceous, whereas I am tall and more rectangular. This of course influences the styles we wear.

We both enjoy fashion. At age 79, she still dresses nicely, but now comfort is the deciding factor when it comes to style. I do remember some very stylish outfits from her younger days, though, especially from the 60's and 70's. My favorite image of her is a picture of her taken when she was 19 wearing a fitted skirt and jacket with a black, wide-brimmed hat. She was (and still is) breathtaking!

My late mother and I have a few clothing style points in common but we're much more similar when it comes to interior decor. She had beautiful, interesting, educated taste and while she cared about looking neat, appropriate and pretty her unique sense of style shone strongest in our home.

My style is like my mother's...
1) She didn't care about designer labels when it came to clothing (shoes and handbags are a whole different story! LOL)
2) She dressed modestly.
3) She always looked for that extra little detail that gave the outfit that zing factor.

My style is unlike my mother's...
1) Except for my wedding ring and a pair of earrings that my husband gave me, I have loads of costume jewelry. My mother would only buy the real stuff.
2) I like to remix things and challenge myself to wear a piece a different way. My mom would be happy to wear the outfit the same way every time.
3) I rarely wear make-up and my mom won't go out without it.
