I was quite amazed with Angie's Tuesday post, it sounded like our style journeys have had similar paths. To summarize my much longer comment on that post, when I joined YLF almost 10 years ago I liked tailored, waist defining pretty clothes in pretty colors, then did a lot of masculine fits/slouchy cuts in the past 4-5 years and am craving pretty and tailored style yet again.
My absolute favorite colors (not neutrals) used to be all the shades of teal and purple, and somehow I ended up with not much of them in my closet these days. I reviewed my closet about a month ago and decided to consciously make an effort to fix this and to make this color palette my mainstay (though not the only one) regardless of the trends (attaching a few visuals). So I am allowing myself to have two parallel color palettes from now on: this favorite one that would be my base and the second one which is whatever I am into that season (this season it is a lot of blush and pale blue).
This past weekend I was browsing the local H&M when a dress in those exact colors jumped at me. My lifestyle is very casual and I don't have much opportunities to wear dresses but I tried it on anyway. To my big surprise, it fit like a glove, and sheath dresses are extremely difficult to fit on me due to my fairly long and small waist compared to the rest of my figure. I couldn't pass it on ( it was also on clearance for $20) so I brought it home. It is neither too casual nor too dressy so I would be curious what you think would be the right occasions to wear it (I am not allowed to wear skirts/dresses at work). The material is of thicker scuba type, but with very little stretch. Even if I end up not wearing it much just looking at all the colors on it in my closet makes me very happy.
