Monday morning a friend shared some dressing room pictures, asking if she should get the dress. It looked awesome on her, and since our coloring and body shapes are similar (I'm just taller), I really wanted to try it myself.
The dress is from J. Crew and in a Liberty cotton print. It was way out of my price range originally, but on final sale (no return!) about 70% off. Miraculously, there's a single store pretty close, and they had the smaller of my possible two sizes in stock. They held it for me and I zoomed over after work to try it on. Obviously I loved it!
It's a halter neckline but closed back. This is not something I usually go for, but I gave it a shot anyway. The waistline is very defined with two rows of elastic shirring, and a very long narrow tie/sash that can be wrapped and tied in different ways.
The skirt has two tiers, basically a deep yoke and a long lower tier. This isn't a design I've seen much. This was the biggest fit question: a skimpy top tier tight on the hip is an awful look for me. It looked pretty generous on my friend so I figured it was worth trying.
And it really fits great! I couldn't resist twirling in the dressing room. The hem is actually a deep 3" facing, which gives a good weight without any bulk, and helps it twirl better. I've already worn it once this week
