Late but this suddenly hit me. Jules and Jim opened up a whole new world for me. I think I understand my obsession with white culottes now.

I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying seeing you all post here. And I'm posting some additional pics of mine that I've saved for over a decade because even pre-YLF I had a really strong sense of what I loved, even if I didn't implement it in reality. Per Natalie, I need to do so - these look attainable!

Oohhh love this. My style icon is Gwen Stefani. LOVE HER and her Rock and Roll life style. Funny thing is that I have most of these items in my closet like #1 outfit, #4 leather jacket, #5 all except flip flops (don't own a pair), #10 and all. Hmmm, I may have to use this a Fall/Winter casual capsule.

I keep meaning to post here. My inspiration: a medieval maiden, either in the village or at court.

Well, I am fearfully late here. I just wanted to say that I read and relished every one of these replies.

I had an awfully hard time coming up with images that express the fantasy me. The fantasy me IS me. How lame is that?

Well, like Janet said, she'd be richer. Freer to take off at a moment's notice to Paris, London, Rome, or New York. She'd have more time to do the work she loves.

Oh, and she would live in a climate where it was not necessary to wear boots, scarves, puffer coats and other such accoutrements for 6 months of the year. For 3 months, sure. No problem. She is up for that. Just not 6.

Suz, you're not alone - I just got here too.
But, oh! how I've loved the thread!
I've been trying to suss out my fictional counterpart, and so far, I'm coming up blank. The best I can come up with is if Delirium (from Sandman comics), Tank Girl, Lorelei Gilmore, and Kate Helpburn all had a baby who liked to dress like Stevie Nicks.
no wonder I can never find a style descriptor. *sighs and laughs at self*

Late to the party again. I had such a busy weekend - I kept glancing thru this thread and wanting to join but couldn't. Now I'm sitting in the ATL airport on a layover so here goes mine...

#1-Fabulously chic yet simple Parisian and fashion icon
#2- Fearless and brightly garbed artist
#3- Sophisticated half of a power couple with fabulous arms
#4 & #5- this would be me at my summer home in Jackson Hole. (Actually #5 is my friend at her home in the mountains
#6- gloriously trenched problem solver
#7- rocker

I see tiny glimpses of these archetypes in my choices at times.

Sigh. This was fun to think about.

Thanks Una!

Una your last group is stunning. I'm drawn to that look too. But you can totally pull it off.

AnnieMouse, huge Sandman fan here. Delirium, not Death? Because Death is so dang cute.

Suz, you're the apex of this thread - you and your fantasy you as one!

Angie T., thanks... digging out those pics has me contemplating what I could do to be more like those pics. They convey more than a style to me - there's a whole FEELING they evoke. Hmmmm....

Una - deffo not Death! She's adorable, but I could never live in her wardrobe (despite years in the goth scene, I could never give up my love of colour). Plus, she's WAY too together for me to relate to. ha! But Del... Del, I can relate to. And I find her fashion much more inspiring

Oh I loved reading this thread! I have a very *cough* developed fantasy life, as you might be able to guess.

As far as I can tell, my fantasy self is a former ballerina, turned old-fashioned farmer/wisewoman (if anyone has read The Ocean at the End of the Lane, *that* farmhouse) somewhere in northern/eastern Europe who lives on the edge of the woods. I suspect she's not quite in this century, although she certainly enjoys a modern woman's independence. She regularly takes train trips into a lovely old city full of historic architecture & cobblestones to get her dose of culture. And she occasionally stumbles into a fairy tale or across a magical creature as she's adventuring about.

For images, I included one of Anna Pavlova (in public domain), and I found a couple folklore ones that I'm not sure about copyright so there's this one and this one. As for fairy tales/fantasy and farmhouses and fin-de-siecle pictures, I can't imagine narrowing it down. They all live inside my head though.

Years ago I tore a photo out of a Vogue spread on India Hicks and kept it for ages, then one day while cleaning tossed it--much to my regret. I've searched online and haven't been able to find it yet. Besides showing India doing a perfect headstand, (may even have been a handstand) there was India wearing what at first look might seem like a simple outfit. It was perfect though. The perfect tailored black blazer tossed over a perfect white shirt, with perfect jeans and very high heeled sandals. Another look I can't find was as still of Tuesday Weld from Play it as it Lays. Again she was wearing a dark blazer, perfect jeans and perfect boots.

I thought I might find a photo of Cheryl Tiegs--more American looking, but in a similar outfit, when she was modeling. Couldn't find anything just right either.

I can see them in my mind though. I just counted: I have 7 black jackets--all a bit different. I could work with them, but white shirts defy me and I've yet to find the perfect jeans.

So far no photos to share.

When I grow up, apparently, I want to be a bad@$$. I guess I need to stock up on leather, cargo pants, tank tops and biceps, lol.

Casual but intentional, effortlessly cool. Easy but not sloppy.

I loved reading this thread. thanks for starting it Alaskagirl. I was a volunteer EMT/firefighter for a couple years and picked these images from Chicago Fire and Call the Midwife because I love the style but also because I identify with the characters sometimes and in my very active fantasy life, I'd dress like Jenny Lee and go around saving lives and being awesome.

Ok, I realize that I am totally late to this party! But I have been thinking about it and gathering photos. My comment on your thread with the tule skirt brought me back here. Your addition of Grace Kelley to your fantasy proved my point perfectly. So here are mine. The Rapunzel pic is purely for the lanterns. I want everywhere I go in my fantasy world to be lit by twinkle lights and glowy lanterns. It is a requirement. The last photo puts the warrior in my fairy/elvin princess (the same way that you have a little princess in your warrior).

Oh, Galadriel! Excellent inspo. I love that you have the hair color for these too - I have the cut I want, but wish I could add more manga to the color.

Wouldn't it be great to be surrounded by twinkling wherever you went? Sounds like the premise of a Disney movie.

Yes... Like the lights they are putting in freezers and fridges in grocery stores now, where you walk past them and they light up on the inside. We would need a magical button that ignites twinkle lights as we walk in to a room, or outdoors. Everywhere we go... Magical glow. Yeah, I could get on board with that!

And Angie T., I thought I commented here already that your descriptions take the cake! "Half of a power couple with fabulous arms" indeed! Is that REALLY your friend in a Ralph Lauren utopia?

I love this thread! My fantasies are Grace Kelly and Catherine Deneuve.
