In my mind, my wardrobe doesn’t have many neutral items, because black is such a difficult color to wear. In my closet, things look very different, lol. These are all my casual summer skirts (unless there are some in the hamper or cellar that I’ve forgotten about)

Funny. Though I do find black in prints easier to wear. Especially in small scale prints the totality can read as grey (or whatever according to the other color)..,

I am not surprised and I can easily relate. In my mind, my wardrobe doesn’t have many COLOR because COLOR is so difficult to wear. In my summer closet, things look quite different, lol....

Yes, but only one solid black skirt. Do you really find black hard to wear? I do but I always think I’m in the minority.

Lovely skirts that will work so well with colour. I have lots of black, but find it very useful to be the backdrop for my more colourful items.

I think I have the same going on in my closet with white. I keep saying how much I hate it, but in reality, I still have quite a bit. I even have one skirt with an abstract print but it is not pure white. I kept two pair of white jeans but rarely wear them.

Preppy, yes, I really do think black is tricky for me to wear. Besides being a "summer", for whom black generally doesn't work, I have allergic circles under my eyes that sometimes look like I didn't get enough sleep, and other times look like someone has punched me (yes, people have inquired out of concern). Before I lived in Berlin in the 90s, I word black very sparingly. I'm more comfortable with it now, but still can't begin to wrap my head around the comments so many people make about grabbing the black item "because it's easiest".

Liesbeth, you mean you also have trouble with black, but prints
make it easier? We should make a club--you, Preppy Pear, and me, lol.

Staysfit, oh yes, I do have a white skirt! It is a great big linen full skirt with some white lace. But I don't think it negates what I said here, because that is also a neutral.

RL, what are the actual gingham vs stripes numbers in your closet?

Bijou, you wear color well. I agree with you on black (or a pattern with black) as a good backdrop for fun colors.

Lynn, you mean you think you have my neutral wardrobe, but actually have the colorful one I think I have? lol!

I like your collection - easy to mix with white and some of those playful tops you have in your wardrobe.
My skirts are all printed ones - the solid colored skirts don't survive in my closet . I would wear the white graphic tee with my printed skirts and call it a day ( all my prints have some white color in it ).

I like your collection- very cohesive. I have somewhat different problem with black - I always think that I should have it in my wardrobe because it is such a versatile and practical color, but I end up not wearing it much.

Interesting that you have so much black yet find it difficult to wear. I avoid black like the plague. Now grey, that’s a different matter. If black isn’t your best neutral, what is?

Thanks slim cat! So interesting how we have our own idea of what's easy. But that's true in the rest of life, so why not here?

I do know the feeling - like thinking I don't wear tee shirts and then realising I have several and they are constantly being worn and in the wash.

I probably agree that black is not your best colour (nor me) but that you could wear it if you wanted to in a pattern or away from your face like a skirt. At times it is hard not to own black because it is so ubiquitous.

You have enough skirts to go a whole week wearing a skirt each day without repeating. If you have a white top and a black one you are set. You could also add a color with a top, maybe something like red or pink, but it could be a light neutral. I just watched a flash mob in Germany and noticed that everyone was wearing neutrals, those watching or going about their day and those participating, often neutrals or muted colors mixed in the outfit.

Joy, no e of these were purchased here, but I think your observation is spot on. It’s almost like I changed my environment to match me, instead of the usual changing what I wear to match the environment.

My wardrobe looks similar. I find black and white patterns the easiest to wear and mix. And if it’s a skirt you can still wear colour near your face. All problems solved!

What is that skirt that is fourth from the left? And the striped one next to it? Can we see some outfits with those? I'm really digging the both of those patterns! Maybe put some color near your face, in the form of a tee or a summer-weight scarf or necklace.

I think all of these skirts make perfect sense for someone who wears a lot of color and enjoys bold playful patterns! Black/white prints look *so* good with the yummy berry colors I associate with you, and you have patterns in lots of different scales here, which gives you a good variety of options for pattern-mixing. Anyway, this skirt capsule looks great to me!

LBD, you may have just solved my dilemma over what to wear to a job interview tomorrow. Thank you! I've posted a couple of outfits in the jersey striped skirt, but haven't worn the botanic print one because it is too formal for most of my life. I've applied for a ton of jobs, can't keep them all straight, just looked up the company the interview is with and saw--yikes!--men in jackets. Not really formal double-breasted suitjackets, more the youthful kind out of maybe cotton fabric. That skirt might be just the thing.

Brooklyn, when I first started at YLF, you were doing a lot of pattern mixing with neutral, mostly b/w pattern. You looked fantastic; I still associate that look with you.
