I'm mad at Michael Kors!

I wen't to put on my new Michael Kors trench (the one from the NAS sale) before heading out for a fun day wine tasting in the Willamette Valley in the rain, had my outfit all planned around wearing it, and a button pops off! All the buttons are just barley hangining by a thread, what's with that?!?

Ugh! I HATE that! I have had certain garments that I just re-sewed all of the buttons before I could wear it. At least it's an easy fix. Maybe you could even get Nordie's to sew them on better for you?

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. I've worn my MK trench just once, but haven't noticed any button issues. Will make a mental note to take a closer look.

I agree, check with Nordstrom ~ I'm sure they will sew them on tightly for you.

Call Nordies and they will have the alterations department fix it for free. Sorry. So annoying.

Thanks, Chewey, Beth, Sparkey and Marianna. Thought about calling Nordies, but it's almost more hastle than it's worth, plus it's raining and I could be wearing my coat...guess I'll just head to the fabric store and buy thread, I'm all out of black, dang!

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up, in case you have this jacket - no extra buttons on the coat, so you don't want to lose any!

It's a modern day scourge, Carole! One of my pet peeves. Why pay all that money for buttons that go flying off before you have even properly introduced yourself to the garment? You should complain on principle even if you fix it yourself. As I type this I have one button of the sweater I am wearing stashed in my pocket so that I don't lose it. Incidentally I have already re-sewn 2 buttons on this sweater. Modern scourge I tell you!!

Ive had that problems a few times myself and it is very frustrating! Especially on 'brand name' items....like when I washed my Bodens velvet coat, 3 of the buttons came loose and the stitching that is holding the 1/2 self-belt on it fell off! aagghhh.....

Carole, don't you just hate that! Whenever I buy anything, I restitch every button. Every time. My mom taught me this little trick decades ago!

And I agree with biscuitsmom: the more expensive the item, the more likely the buttons are to be loose.

PS. I always take the extra button that comes with the garment and sew it on right away. On the inside, of course, where it doesn't show.

Booo. Can't blame Michael...who sewed that button on in the first place...I want names!:)

Yup, that was a problem with my MK trench too. I had to reinforce most of the buttons. And there was one buttonhole (for the lining) that wasn't cut through.
Otherwise it's worked great for 2 years!

Scalet you are so right! I'm just glad I noticed, as there were no extra buttons, that would have really been a bummer!

!Interesting that it isn't just me or my coat! Makes no sense that the more expensive the garment, the more likely this is to happen..go figure...As some of you suggested, I called Nordstrom and they said they would rush alterations to fix all the buttons, I will have it back later today. Now that's good service. So glad I mentioned it here, saves me all that time and effort fixing myself, I had planned to take it on a little trip tomorrow so Nordies saves the day. Thanks for the great advise

Arrrg, now I'm mad at Michael, too! Feel your pain, girlfriend! I hate when this happens and it happens all too often. Another vote for taking it back to Nordies. Got to love their customer service!

It's so annoying when that happens. I had this happen on a coat several years ago. My nan resewed all the buttons back on and not one has moved an inch since!! x

Are the buttons metal, by chance? I would recommend swapping them out if so. I had a coat with metal buttons and they contantly fall off because the metal cuts through the thread a little each time the buttons are used. Seems silly that a designer would use a button that didn't stay on, but this was my experience.

At least you didn't lose the button in the street or somewhere where you couldnt' recover it!

Jenava-no kidding! That was one of the things I really liked about this jacket, the pewter type buttons. I guess I better make a schedule for checking the buttons-argghh!

Ah, that's terrible! Maybe you can find some buttons that are pewter on the front but plastic where they get threaded?

Honestly, are buttons getting sewed on with less thread or lower quality thread these days? I've had that happen a few time in the past year, even with buttons on a very nice wool coat. Lately I've been pre-emptively reinforcing the button stitching myself if I notice they are loose. It's less hassle than trying to dig through my button drawer to find whether there is a replacement button or not!

update-got my jacket back from Nordstroms, they quicklly reinforced my buttons today, had my coat back in 4 hours! That beats trying to do it myself, thanks for the tip YLFr's.

Yay Carole - good on Nordie's service! 2 nights ago I spent the evening sewing buttons back on my Soi & Kyocoat after 2 feel off and 5 more were threatening too. I have the same issue with a Boden shirt as well. Hate it!!!
