I'm Getting Spotty For Christmas

Well, it's better than getting "nuttin" for Christmas (check out Relient K's version of this song for an East End flair).

I saw the pumps at my new DSW and left them there. I don't wear brown. My palette is cool and vibrant. If I were to wear brown, boots would be more sensible. Blah, blah. blah.

I made a special trip to go back because I felt so fab in them. They fit divinely and have a flexible sole and solid heel that is ladylike, but balances my substantial calves. Made by Ann Klein, but on the clearance rack, I could get them for less than $30. So, I'm thinking of treating them like a neutral and considering them a bookend to my hair. This will allow me to break out of my black shoe rut, which is sorely needed at this point. I will need to wear them with blues, purples, and reds, as well as with black.

The second pair was not planned, but these silver/black slipper flats would work well for the holidays, I think. I plan on using them mostly as "indoor slippers" at other people's houses. I understand why people remove shoes indoors, but I don't like being in socks anywhere but in my own home. These were also clearanced, and cost me less than $15. After the holidays, they may get more street wear, as long as we're snow free in Chicago.

Any thoughts on styling? Am I veering off my style course here?

GORGEOUS shoes! What great, fun, holiday purchases. The first ones really will bookend your hair beautifully and you can dress them up or down. I'd honestly wear them with anything! The second ones are so much fun, too. For the holidays they are the perfect "indoor" shoe!

I really like your thought process here. You didn't just jump to buy, but considered and reconsidered and worked out WHY you loved them so much.

Way cool Beth Ann. Your colouring is exactly mine before I went white/blonde so totally in your space. The black and silvers are a total no brainer and will be PERfect with so many things in your palette. Your logic is exactly spot on with the brown shoes and hair book end. I also spent years in PPP and got an exact shade bag that is just so beautiful - and annoying when I decided to give in to the white. but they are in the same vein as these shoes. The shoes and colour are SO elegant and a break from the black. They will look killer with all black outfit but also blue, red, purple and grey which i am sure is in your wardrobe. So great purchase - love them both! Its hard moving from black but its also fantastic. Merry Christmas Beth Ann and thank you for your encouragement during the year!

Love, love, love the pumps! Makes me wish I could wear heels. They are so cool, and yes, totally doable as a neautral.

The holiday slippers are fun, and what a great way to keep your shoes on but not track slush into people's houses.

Thanks for the thumbs up! I have a trip to visit the in-laws in Kansas next week and, while they are lovely people, it is not an easy time, and I feel quite vulnerable there. They're petite people ---all of them -- and quite critical of others who are overweight, although they never directly criticize me. Basically, a fab pair of shoes and a well-curated holiday travel capsule are a way of boosting my confidence, which helps me be graceful and loving, rather than insecure and prickly.

You had me prepped for some super ugly but comfy shoes. Those aren't brown, they're GORGEOUS!!! They are beyond bookending; they are swoon worthy. So glad you bought them. I'll bet you find them far more versatile than you ever imagined, and they will make your thick, beautiful hair look even more vibrant. I also really like your slipper flats which I am SURE go better with my gray and black hair and wardrobe better than yours and really appeal to my magpie gene. . .Knock 'em dead in Kansas, girl!

I am the shortest at 5'9" and the gang of us stand out in a crowd espesh when we were younger and would wear stilettos as well... its sooo lovely but has always reminded me that it is cool to be who you are .... feel your pain re your visit but I always think well do you think a great dane is any less beautiful than a chihuaha? I love Relient K! They were a regularly on my playlist for the radio program I was doing last year ;). Now to the shoes....stunning. I am so glad you went back for the brown shoes. I think they will work beautifully as a neutral and they are simply stunning. Both pairs should work extremely well in you wardrobe.

I adore both of these pairs of shoes. The heels are a great shape and that pattern will be so versatile. I've worn my slipper flats so much indoors, I think they have replaced my need for regular slippers entirely. Love your leopard print ones, so fab!
