To Second Time Around:
"Hello. I purchased a pair of Tod's loafers at the STA on Charles Street on August 22. The soles completely disintegrated while I was wearing them for the second time in September. I detailed the situation in a post to a fashion blog I participate in, here:

Yesterday I finally had some time and brought the shoes back to Beacon Hill for a refund. The store manager told me she isn't authorized to give refunds herself, and asked that I write to you. She did take pics and I include some as well in the above link.
I realize that your policy is for all sales to be final. This particular situation is outside my normal expectations of what I should be getting. On the surface, the shoes looked perfect. They fit beautifully. I never would have expected them to disintegrate, literally, on a second wearing.
The store manager thought that if I could demonstrate that they're knock-offs of real Tod's shoes, it would be within your policy to grant me a refund. However, I disagree that the responsibility should be mine. It's STA's responsibility to make sure that what you sell is a legitimate item. I bought these shoes under that assumption. I think it would be unfair for you to place the burden on me to investigate these shoes. I am asking that you stand by your merchandise, and authorize a refund for me.
Please feel free to ask me any other questions if that's helpful.
Thanks,
Mochi
(I decided to hold back on illegality of selling knock-offs for the time being...sounds too threatening to start off with)
Thanks for all your support! Tiny Little First World Problem, but I will emerge victorious! I better.
