...if you're brave enough to look at these photos. Team Riveting Rearsiders is not one that I'm on! Plus my hair's not done and I'm not wearing any make-up, so you have been warned

The Backstory: I was playing in my closet this morning, looking for options to wear with my Gap 3/4 crops, a BF fit that has been a workhorse for me this summer. I will be taking these on another vacay and was looking for multiple ways to wear them.

The Reality: I love all my BFs from the front, but the back? Now that's another story. And in true Karie form, I stood closer to the camera for the rear shot so my back end is enormous!

Here you go: Now I'll (virtually) hand you a pair of eye shields in case of any sudden shock to your pupils...you might want to add an extra heart pill or paper bag in case of any sudden gasps or shocks to your system...

Tops: #1 and #4 - J.Crew, #2 - Gap, #3 - Target, #5 - Loft, worn with a gray cami underneath

So give it to me straight - is anything here worth wearing out of the house? Does anyone else have issues with the back fit of BF jeans, and what do you do?

But honestly? I have no problem with the rear side view of any of these! You look adorable front and back. Like an adorable slim rectangle who is wearing baggy pants. No big deal!

Then again, I guess I'm not a Team Riveting Rearsider. Nor is Mr. Suz -- he actually PREFERS the fit of BF jeans on the back view. Go figure. (So to speak).

The only ones I'm less crazy about here have nothing to do with the rear view. I am not wild about the wash of these jeans and the blue in photo 2 (though it may look different IRL. If as in the photos, I'd rather see that top with white bottoms.) And I'm not entirely sure about the cropped vest over the black top, although I do like the idea a lot.

By the way, your haircut is adorable.

Thanks, Suz! I don't care for the cropped top over the black top either, at least not with these jeans - perhaps white jeans would change my mind. I see what you mean about the two blues in #2, I think this top looks better when not worn with blue jeans.

I have to admit I don't really look much at the back side of my own (I should), but I think these look great. I agree with what Suz said regarding the blue on blue and the vest. Do you have a metallic or snake skin belt by chance? I'd semi-tuck that black top and add a belt. In fact, if you have a metallic belt, the blue on blue with semi-tuck might work...

I am so glad Suz said something, cos I don't see "problem" here, either! The thing underneat the white shirt bothers me a little, though. And the white vest over the black shirt looks too "wait staff" for my taste. The striped shirts are a great casual look.

Yes, Alana, now I do see "wait staff!" I think I will scrap that combo.
Texstyle, I do have a Fossil metallic belt, but I think that black blouse is too long to semi-tuck. I have a shorter top that I might try.

Do your pants have a gap at the back? I'm noticing it only in the striped shirt photo (the boatneck blue). It's one of those things that will bug you once all of your shirts start resting up on top of the gap!

Other than that, I think they are all acceptable public consumption tops (except the waitstaff top!) The first is my favorite.

Ah ha ha! I think you deserve a comedy award and our endless devotion for your fun intro alone. Now...I think 1 and 4 are winners. I don't have a problem with 2, but I do think it would look much better with a little front tuck. And the contrast of 5 is distracting to me. I think the white shirt lets your shoes be the star, and so in this case I think a white tank would look better. And I agree with Suz--you just look like yourself, a slim rectangle in baggy baggy boyfriend jeans.

Are you kidding? You look great from all angles. I don't see waitstaff in the black and white version. I especially like 1 and 4.

If it makes you feel any better, I loathe my rear view and avoid it at all costs. Nothing shows my crooked back and wide hips to full effect like a rear view. BF jeans definitely don't help.

Von, I do have a bit of a "swayback" which can cause pants to gap at the waistband (a swayback alteration is one that I frequently have to do on pants) - these don't really have that gap - I think the shirt is bunched because I just didn't take the time to fix it when I put it on, it usually doesn't do that (I think).

Suz, you are too sweet - DORKable is the word I would have used for me...

Janet, yes, I avoid the rear view at all costs! It is quite the eye-opener - "Wha-huh? This outfit looks like THAT?"

K, donnat, and shedev, I think #1 and #4 are the winners too.

Srsly? You would weep at my rear view if you think is is bad! This is a great look for boyfriend jeans... Mine are more like "guy you would never date because of his pants issue" jeans!

I think the back view is perfect - as BF jeans go, It is not too baggy, just the right amount!
However (if you seek an honest opinion) I have an issue with the tops. For proportions I prefer BF jeans with tucked or semi-tucked tops - or high-low hem - or shorter and welted. In your pictures the only one I like for proportions is #2 with hi-low hem - but like Suz I think the colors are not the best together.
So have you tried to semi-tuck or fully tuck in tops in ##1,4 and 5?
...but I also adore the rear view...:-)

Am I missing something? I don't even SEE your rear! I expected to see back tucking and maybe even a bend over. Well, no. I thought you would be wearing neon. So disappointed. . . .But then, I have no doubt you would look 100% fab.

Sveta, yes, maybe that's what I'm thinking is off - I think I always wear a semi-tuck with my BFs. I was trying to go the "no fuss" route, as I'll likely be wearing something like this tomorrow on the boardwalk at the Jersey shore. I don't really fuss with my semi-tucks, but I always think they make me look like my stomach is sticking out...I think I need to just get over that!

The stripe top is my favorite. I just like stripes for you for some reason. And lol you have nothing to worry about with the back view!

I agree with Sveta--I prefer a semi tuck with boyfriend jeans. And I think that's how I cope with the baggy-butt feature of them. To me, showing a bit of waist helps, because it's not such an all-over baggy feel, at least from my perspective when wearing them. I do have a pair of boyfriend jeans that I feel are just the old Mom jeans look with a different name. They are relegated to blackberry-picking and the like. If I gardened, they would be gardening pants.

I like all the tops with the jeans, except the layered black and white version--I do think that combo is really cool, and would look great over skinny jeans in dark wash.

eta: if you want to wear the tops untucked, for the no-fuss factor, what about wearing a skinny jean rolled at the hem?

I think #1 looks very chic. And your butt looks like a butt does in roomier jeans, no eyeshields required. I hope you have an awesome vacation!!

# 1 is my fave because of the color and stripe is just right for the jeans wash and the curved hem is just right if you go untucked. For the BF style, a complete rear- covering length can actually look more bulky. The other stripe with a tuck or semi tick is great too- on vacation, I would likely lose my tucks, sooner or later-- maybe make the effort for a restaurant! I don't prefer the mid- blue due to lack of color contrast.

Now you have us all running to the mirror to check out the rear fit (or lack thereof) of our BF jeans . Getting the right fit for this type of jean is tricky, isn't it? I was really expecting to see pictures I couldn't even comment on - from your hilarious description - and was disappointed to see fun looks that are totally wearable. Agree with all of the comments above - tops are great but not all with these jeans. My faves are the two stripes - they provide enough of a contrast and break from the back of the jeans.

Oh, Karie! You are a riot. You had me in stitches before I even looked at your pictures. I expected to see some major droopy drawers! Hope you're not still worried - your rear view is more than fine, my dear. Quite lovely even. Where you're going, you'll be a one percenter (so says this former Jersey girl).
