I enjoy this blog and found this content regarding Coastal Grandmother fun. It includes a social media response from Diane Keaton. But maybe you have already seen it.
I must confess I have recently watched "It's Complicated" and have "Something's Gotta Give" ready to go and I have my own DVD of "the Holiday" so am obviously biased.

I’ve been following une femme for years. A Well Styled Life also featured Coastal Grandmother style. Doesn’t appeal to me at all. It is interesting to read about it though. Need to go back to see what Diane Keaton says.

But I agree about why does it have to have the grandmother bit in there? Why can’t it just be coastal chic or something without defining the age of the person?
( I am a grandmother now but don’t fit this aesthetic at all)

Jenni, what’s wrong with “grandmother”? It’s not my style, but that’s not because of the name. I think “chic” implies something different.

Jenni, I cringe at the label too. Just because I’m over 50, don’t label me as a grandma. Not that there’s anything wrong with being a grandma, but it grates on me to be defined by an assumed familial role. Maybe because I was never a “mom” either.

The style doesn’t speak to me, personally, but I can see the appeal.

I don’t find the CG name offensive. For me a “grandmother “ part of the name refers more to a retired person. I definitely interested in this style as an inspiration for my future wardrobe once I retire. And I definitely use similar clothes on vacations.

Not a mom or a grandmom, or even on the coast, but I think this style has gradually taken over my life! (I have no problem with the grandma label. Who doesn't love a grandma?)

I like the name Coastal Grandmother Style. Usually, grandmother style is thought of as negative but adding the word coastal makes it seem fun and positive.

I too rebel at the notion of grandmother, coastal or otherwise. I am thinking of resurrecting my menswear persona of Sleazy Country Uncle.

Not a fan of this look for me. The Grandma reference kind of grates me too, maybe because like Janet I am not a Mom either. Seems a bit ageist and expecting us to be in a certain role at a certain age. Now the Sleazy Country Uncle look - that sounds interesting, Ha-ha.

I’m not actually offended by the term, I just feel it’s a bit anti-feminist in that have you seen trends for men defined by their “familial relationships”? Actually I suppose there are: Dad sneakers? It was the writer of the blog linked in this post who brought up not liking the term.

I don't like this term either, although I think the look is chic and am a fan of Diane Keaton. I am much more likely to want to embrace Sleazy Country Uncle style and hope that Dr Martin footwear is a feature of that style.

I love the style, no matter what it is called. I love being a grandmother, but my style is so far from the grandmotherly fashion my grandmothers wore. I haven’t heard anyone say, “Wow, I love your CG style.” I have had some nice compliments on my outfits though. I think the term is more to label a trend or for marketing than a comment about age. I’m going to consider CG to be Coastal Grace.

If either of the words in this style descriptor seem emotionally-Laden to me, it is “coastal”, not “grandma”. Grandmas are familiar parts of everyone’s life, whether they themselves have kids or not. Men can also relate to “grandma” even though it’s highly unlikely they will ever be one. The area I grew up in is commonly referred to as “flyover country”. The word “coastal” is frequently linked with “elites”. There is plenty of resentment there. I see the use of “coastal” as a way to sharpen up “grandma”, to show that she’s happening and current, not dowdy and disappearing.

It's also "coastal" that rather pings on me. I'm hundreds of miles from any seacoast, and over a thousand from the "real" coast that is intended by this. "Coastal" style is completely unattainable and unrelatable to most of the US. (I'm just now reading about it - when I first saw it I shrugged/rolled my eyes and moved on.)

I like cat2's rebranding of "Carmel style." I love how the style looks on Diane Keaton, and I also loved her Annie Hall look back in the day. Whenever I try to channel her style, though, I end up feeling blah; I just don't carry it off well. Some elements of this style I will gladly adopt, though. I just ordered this cardigan. I couldn't resist the "lavender antique white" color. (I tried to create a Find, twice, but somehow it didn't work.)
