I started washing and carefully sealing all of my cashmere in plastic. I started packing away my daughters' heavy winter sweaters, too.

So, if winter comes back, it's probably my fault!

Does storing cashmere in plastic prevent moths? I heard the opposite was true, but I'm so desperate to save my y sweaters from the holes that inevitably appear every year!

Roxanna- I cannot swear to it but I think plastic is not so good for natural fibers as they have moisture. Suggest you purchase cedar balls , planks , paper liners or chips- natural repellent. And of course make sure sweaters are freshly laundered before you put them away.
But then I could be wrong- have been before and will be in the future

Well, i may have contributed. I dared to get my snow tires changed out and then I took a photo of some snow drops and texted them to a coworker when I was hiking along a rail trail yesterday. Snow this am

I’ll shoulder some of the blame. I moved all of our snow boots to the basement and put our baskets of hats, scarves and mittens on shelves in the mud room.

I'm slowly washing and packing away sweaters, but had to stop when we had a cold week with three days of snow. Now I know who to blame!
Roxanna, be sure to put sweaters away clean. I put them in the freezer sometimes for extra protection. Mine get packed in zipper fabric bags inside an under-bed Rubbermaid container with unwrapped bars of Irish Spring soap. Anything with a strong smell will repel moths, not just mothballs or cedar, which use the same principle. Last summer my woolies stayed out in the closet without any damage. I did brush or shake them occasionally.

Ha!Ha!Ha! You're funny. This time, it's for real. In French we say "En avril, ne te découvre pas d'un fil; mais en mai, fais ce qu'il te plaît!" (loose translation: in April, keep all your layers on you, even the one last bit of thread; however in May, you can do whatever you wish (= wear whatever you fancy). I guess it's like Cast not a cloud 'til May is out.

I am struggling with cashmere.

I tried plastic totes with lavender last year, and I still had nibbles.

The method I'm trying I read from a blogger in Minnesota, so maybe it'll work here in Wisconsin, too.

I am trying plastic bags this year inside of a plastic storage tote, and I think I will try the Irish Spring soap.

I can't stand the smell of moth balls, and I've tried the cedar closet in the past with no luck.

Maybe it's because I store them down int he basement. Our basement is clean, dry, and fully finished, but it is below ground.

I actually like the smell of mothballs. Our Christmas stockings were always stored with them.
