Idiotic comments at the office...

My husband told me he didn't like my boots today. He claims they should only be worn with jeans. And our paralegal (when asked) says red and black don't match and I should be wearing black shoes.

What am I to make of these Philistines? Are Docs with a dress just part of my man-repelling style? Or are they right?

MaryK, when can we open our fashion-savvy office?

And I thought it was bad when the guys at my office made fun of a guy for pairing black with brown... :T

You need to hire a personal assistant, who will be there dropping off your lunch/drycleaning when the men say these things - and then he/she can roll her eyes and say that matching is SO 2002!

And, Una, I love Docs with dresses. Yes, I was a teen in the 90's, why do you ask?

I was once told by someone in my lab, "Nice boots. They look.... fashiony." Huh?

As for the red and black not matching, the appropriate response is, "They don't match. They GO. Duh." Delivered with a withering look and pitying headshake.

As for Mr. Una (alaskaman?),tell him he is free to wear his Docs only with jeans, and you will continue to rock yours with dresses. And he is not required to like it, but he is required to keep a civil tongue in his head! (Or, as I tell Mr. K, "Everybody who wants to critique my outfit may so signify by saying "I don't want to have sex for the foreseeable future!")

This Summer a friend from an other country pointed out to me how unstylish Norwegians are because of their unmatching shoes, belts and bags. I smiled inside throughout the entire tirade. The men in your office has allies!

Psst! Has the paralegal ever seen Santa?? Even the mall mock-ups typically wear ::gasp:: black boots with the RED Santa suit... Banish him to the North Pole, pronto!

As for the other half, try explaining this is the Docs' WORK look; jeans are for casual(er) days... (though I'm not holding out much hope for a conversion here!)

I have issues with coworkers all the time with my wardrobe. I just smile and then sport the look more often. I figure their eyes need adjusting. And I adore black and red paired together!

The office staff aside, remember my personal favorite when DH makes a negative comment about my fashion I sometimes just pout and say "I thought it looked kinda sexy." He usually changes his view immediately.
