Ideas to Restyle a Bridesmaid Dress?

I recently restyled a bridesmaid dress from my brother's wedding, and wanted to share: http://bit.ly/1gnzSYH

Also, was thinking through some other ideas of ways to reuse this dress. Has anyone else found creative ways of reusing bridesmaid dresses? Has anyone cut theirs or shortened it?

That's actually a pretty cute bridesmaid dress to begin with! The way you've styled it with the booties and jean jacket is great. Very California.

My bridesmaid dress was a cocktail dress to begin with, so it's still that kind of a dress - too formal to dress down unfortunately - even though the skirt is short.

Yours looks great, very versatile and beachy/springy. I think you could style it in a variety of casual maxi-dress ways, I like how you are wearing it here. It would look good with sandals.

I cut down my sister's wedding dress (became a cocktail style dress vs long) and made a christening gown for her child with the remnants. The fabric was an ivory brocade of simple design.

That's a fun one to work with. In general, bridesmaid dresses are hard to re-style and re-wear because of the fabrics. I don't own anything in tafetta or chiffon that I picked out for myself, you know? I'd love to see a picture of the dress on its own to compare, too, so we could help you come up with more ideas!

Adorkable if you click through to Lauren's web page, she has a link to it. If I understand correctly Lauren, this is what you wore to the rehearsal dinner rather than to the ceremony? That probably makes it easier.

I have only reworn my bridesmaid (red, satin, and blue crepe) dresses to a ball, although one that was medieval themed has actually seen more rewearings for costumes for parties etc.

I hadn't considered cutting mine off, but I do like the way you have styled your outfit. Denim jackets are such a great way to dress down.

Wow, that's such a cute style. I like what you did with the dress. I have never seen a bridesmaids dress with printed patterns before.

I have a long, strapless A-line that I wore as a bridesmaids dress...it's a good fit, and I have thought about shortening it. But since it was too long off the rack, I had it altered, and it cost $60 because of the chiffon / taffeta layers under the dress.

I agree, denim jackets are a must have. I've had mine for almost 10 years and never goes out of style.

Nicely done!

The only way I've ever re-used bridesmaid dresses was to cut them apart, and make them into decorative pillows to give back to the bride.
