So I have lately been refreshing my style. I think I got super caught up in the style rules, and lost the fun! I tend to have a problem with impulse shopping. Something about seeing an item in a store on a mannequin makes me try to talk myself into a purchase, even if I know there are things about it that I don't love or styling issues. I try to justify so many things in the moment!
To keep myself honest, I realized I needed something to have in hand with me while shopping that I could refer to. A personal style manifesto, of sorts. I wanted something that I could refer to on my phone, but could access on any computer as well. Thanks to the power of cloud computing, Google Drive came to the rescue! I made a doc, that I then bookmarked on my homescreen of my iphone. I made 4 single lists: Love, Hate, Want, Buy. Under each of these, I list the things that come to mind. Like for example, I have "long sleeve, uncomfortable fabric, and button-downs" in my "hate" list.
It has been so helpful while shopping. It prevents me from justifying things because I like one thing. So if it's on my hate list, it doesn't get purchased. The Want list is a list of general descriptive items that I want to reflect in my choices. And the Buy is the wardrobe building items that I need to purchase (like a pair of black walk shorts, inspired after seeing Karen's amazing summer outfit. If I look like her at 70, I would be absolutely thrilled!). Does anyone else do anything like this? If you have an issue with impulse buying, give it a shot! It's really helped me.
