Icon challenge : Rick Owens fail and Gwen Stefani to the mall

Ok the closest I could get to rick owens was harem pants. I tried to wear my husband's shorts over running tights...looked silly and it was too cold for the singlet. Went to the supermarket in 1st outfit so it was an outfit for everyday.
Next is Gwen Stefani....the international students in my house thought it was hilarious as I got them to take the photo....going to the mall like this without the 3d movie glasses. I'm wearing skinny jeans instead of tights.

Don't you find that trying these is really informative in terms of helping us move forward in our style? I really enjoy seeing them and doing them (not that I have done one yet, LOL!!)

These are nice outfits, and fun to see your inspiration! I think you did great. I like your idea of subbing jeans in outfit 2--it's a fun look. Maybe you need some cool statement sunglasses.

I think you captured the vibe of both of the icons. I'm impressed that you're experimenting with the harem pants. I don't think I could get away with that look in my environment but it's fun to see on you!

Thanks Angie...Yes I think you have to do the icon the way you can wear in your life and from what you've got. (i dont have Rick Owen's leather sneakers) and I've been able to with each one.
Suz I am finding it interesting how you can use your basic clothes and change a look by twigging the outfits and styling them differently. it really teaches you about accessorizing and what makes looks different.
Meredith - I live in a very ethnically diverse area so that's probably why i can wander around the supermarket in harem pants...fits in with a lot of my neighbours.
My Gwen Stefani look on the other hand. In the end I went shopping with the shirt on top of the tank top half buttoned and a leather jacket. I got whistled at by a young male shop assistant who gave me a big smile and said "hello". I'm thinking the Gwen Stefani look might be branching into cougar territory ..hopefully not mutton dressed as lamb.
I think Ines de la Fressange and EA are good looks for work for me.
Firecracker the problem with me and sunglasses is that I need prescription ones which I have but I need to get fixed. I am quite blind without my glasses. I think I will get them out though because they can really make an outfit.

Skylurker I am very attracted to grunge.....have been for a long time. I've learned not to wear to work though I do wear the black skinnies and boots but usually with a blazer.
