Ice Skating party- need advice

What to wear for an ice skating party? Hi YLFers. I am stumped and would love your advice. Am invited to a daytime ice skating party- I am in my 50s and don’t have the body of my 20-something self :). Thinking should be more sporty than dressy as this is the PNW. Cute hat, turtleneck, shell like I’d wear for skiiing, skinny black pants? Looking forward to any tips, thank you!

Are you a good skater? If not, wear something that will withstand the inevitable falling down on the ice.

Is it indoor or outdoor rink? I'm in the PNW too so am familiar with the weather. If the rink is outside temps are usually in the 40's during the day, cooler at night. Indoor rinks may be colder. Sporty layers, gloves and hat should be fine. Skating is hard work so your core temp can go up and remove layers as needed. If you are renting skates, take thick comfortable socks.

Your idea sounds great. As greycat says, indoor/ vs. outdoor is relevant here. Definitely make sure you have good socks! And enjoy!

Gosh. This makes me nostalgic! My mum had her ladies night on a Thursdays and my dad would take us skating. Warmly cushy socks are a must. Gloves are nice, esp if you fall(!) Sturdy pants too in that vein.

I like the idea of these crash pants! (Pic below) stretchy pants, a big sweater, puffer vest, and beanie or Pom Pom hat. Wool socks, for sure.

How fun! Parties with activities are great.

You have ski stuff, so I’d wear that, including whatever wicking base layer works best. I especially agree with you on the cute hat. Ski goggles and the speed/distance of skiing means pix aren’t usually close-ups. At a skating party, I expect there will be shots of people enjoying the hot chocolate or whatever, so pay attention to what you wear around your face.

I think you've got it! If you're outside, consider bringing a few of those heat packs you can pop in your mitts or skates ... I forget what they're called, but you shake them and they emit heat ... A lifesaver for long days outside in the cold (Canadians, help me - what are these called???)

Cute hat and turtleneck sound perfect. I like Carla's idea of the crash pants and thick, warm socks are a definite must-have. Have a fabulous time!

Thank you all, very helpful! I’ll go there with my head held up high and crash pants on my bottom . I’m actually super intimidated to skate after so many decades but am trying to assume the positive attitude I would lecture my teen daughters to have, lol.

Hi friends, went well. I went around twice and did not hurt anything (except shins sore). After some googling, wore actually long navy puffer, black spanx slim pants (OMG I am in love), black turtleneck, shimmery silver fleece from Northface and a navy knit cap. There was a wide range of clothes and was a nice atmosphere. Thank you so much for your help!! Glad I got over my fear and went. Happy holidays to all!
