It snowed in Berlin! This is a rare thing these days, so I made my Florida boy get up early enough to go out while it was still fresh, to hear how the world sounds, and the way the snow crunches, and to throw snowballs. I sent a bunch of pix to my parents. My mother’s response made my heart sink.

They are also predicted to get snow, in their Ohio home. Several inches, which sounds pretty, and I know my mom knows how to stock a pantry. Then it was supposed to warm up in the afternoon and freeze overnight. Good thing they have a load of logs and my dad still knows how to build a fire in the fireplace. Sounded perfectly warm and cozy.

But here is the catch: my dad had a heart valve replaced when my son was a baby. It’s now worn out, and he has to be at the hospital at 7:30 Mon morning to get a replacement. All that snow that melted the previous day will be ice on the roads. Mom wasn’t looking forward to driving him in, so one of my sisters volunteered her husband.

My dad is a kind man, who has a loving heart, had a sly wit, and was used to being the smartest guy in the room. He still is a wonderful man, but with his mind slipping, he is terribly dependent on my mom. That’s why he can’t drive himself in. Mom will be permitted to stay with him until 7 pm, and then Covid rules require she leave for the night. He will almost certainly wonder where she is all night long.

I don’t have anything to say with this post, just that I’m worried about them.
