I want to wear higher heels, too!

Sorry, I simply had to rant a little bit. My cousin has a school internship in Berlin for two weeks and she's staying with me at the moment (she's 16). She had a really cute pair of ankle booties with her and I had to try them on! I only own flats, myself. And now I'm really depressed because it just looked so nice and my legs looked soo long - and I can't wear them. I can't walk in them and after the two minutes I had them on to take a picture my feet killed me. After two minutes! And they are not even that high. I'm afraid I know why I stick with the flats...

Astrid, you look great in these booties! Don'r dispear - it may be that they just not cut for your feet. There are heeled booties out there which are comfortable, especially if the heels are chunky and chunky heels will look great on you. Try Clarks - this is a very comfortable brand and they have a lot of heeled booties now.

Maybe start with trying smaller heels?

Smaller heels would probably be a good idea. I also thought about trying some low wedge sandals for summer. Something like this:

Although my everyday shoes won't probably have heels, ever.

I agree - start with smaller heels or wedges. I've been wearing heels for 10 years now, and other than my gym shoes, that's all I wear. It takes practice and getting used to it. Some people can't wear them as a result of foot issues, but if you love them that much, I'd suggest trying to find a way to make them work for you.

There are some great "comfort line" shoes with heels. Try looking at thewalkingcompany.com -- Sofft is a good brand for comfortable heels.

Those look great on you, I bet you can find something similar that feels good too!

Astrid, you look great in those booties! But I've never been able to wear heels myself so I can sympathize. I always assumed women who wear heels just put up with extreme pain to look great. But it sounds like heels really don't bother a lot of women. You can find lots or articles and tips about wearing heels if you look around. Maybe something will work for you. I would try it now though. I'm too old and my knees are bad so heels are not possible at all now.

Sarah, I will start slowly with some low wedges. It's not that I really want to wear heels everyday, I just want to be able to wear some heels from time to time e.g. for a special occasion.

Janet, you're right that there has to be something more comfortable out there. I don't think the booties from the pic were very expensive, a sixteen year old doesn't have that much money for shoes after all. I had a look on the website you linked, but I'm an european girl - so no international orders for me.

Kappy, I had a friend in school who wore only heels herself and I could never understand how she did it. But maybe it's possible if I don't ask too much of my feet. I don't want to wear really high heels anyway.

I agree with others start with a low heel or wedge. Try multiple brands. I can wear fairly high heels, but only certain brands I've discovered.

I'm on Sarah's team, I only have 2 pairs of flats other than sneakers and flip-flops - heels all the time for me. It takes practice and the right fit. Don't practice on ill-fitting shoes or you will just hurt your feet! Walk a mile a day in your heels and take it a half inch higher every 6 months or so.

I have always worn heels..even through both pregnancies working and standing on my feet. Even at my age they do not bother me. I don't even own flats, or tennies.
I am sticking to the belief that being able to wear heels may be something some folks just can't do and that it ok...If you are uncomfortable and it is too much like home work start as others have suggested with a low heel and find the height that works for you.

I think some of us are just not destined for heels. The highest I can go for allday wear is 60mm and only then in shoes with padded sole and extra insole. I have higher heels but they are sitting shoes only x

I would go to a store and try on as many pairs as you can and see if ANY of them are comfortable. If some are, them I'm sure you can learn to wear heels. If not, there is no problem with being a flat girl!

Thanks, all! I will definitely try some lower heels in the near future and try to increase the heel height over time.

Mellllls, that's a good idea. Maybe I find the heel height I'm comfortable with!

I'm sure a lot of ladies can recommend some good comfortable ones. My pumps that I wore today are Madden girl and they are very comfortable but I just walk around my office during the day (and do my commute in boots) (also I don't have terribly fussy feet).

I think a smaller heel and wider toe box may help you start wearing heels. Or wedges first, they take pressure off the ball of the foot a bit.
