It's been a while since we've discussed avatars. I'll go first:

Avatar: Angie (current photo of me)

Name: Angie

Real Name: Angélique

People in the US call me Angie, and so did/does my late Mum, Dad, brother and parents-in-law. My parents and brother pronounce it the Dutch way though, which sounds more like "Un-chee". When Greg refers to me in conversation, he calls me Angie.

My school friends, university friends, both sisters-in-law, nephew, all my Dutch relatives and friends, most Euro friends, and friends in Hong Kong, call me Angélique. And when we lived in France - most called me by my full French name.

I go by both names, but Angie is MUCH easier to remember and spell, so that's how I introduce myself in the US.

My user name comes from the fact that I lurked for a good while, and then one day felt the urge to respond to a post.

Thus, DELURKED.

Originally my user name was MaryK, which is my first name and then-married-initial. Then I got divorced and changed my last name and decided to go with MsMary. The baby in the avatar is me! (Fun fact: I'm now remarried to a different Mr. K, but I didn't change my name again and didn't change my user name either!)

Why the heck not. I loved the name LadyWone it came from a female comic book anti-hero but after awhile I just felt the need to be me. I want my real personality to shine through. It's easier for me to keep straight. I probably overshare but I'm the same way on my Fb page. I say just Donna.

I picked Xtabay because it's the name of a beautiful boat on which I spent many happy and romantic hours in the Caribbean and Mexico. Xtabay is a Mayan princess (or witch, some say).

The picture is Marie Antoinette, who I recently found out is one of my DNA haplogroup forebears. Yikes!

I may have picked Sterling out of respect for my dead Mother. She loved sterling silver and it was a huge signature when she was a young woman. For some reason, I always remembered and always associated silver with her.

The picture is quartzite that I came across while hiking. It was a good sized piece and I desperately wanted to take it home with me. It wasn't physically possible so I captured it in a picture. I collect quartz and quartzite. I have a fairly extensive collection of rocks in nearly every room of my house and my office.

My name is Jennifer Lee, my beloved Basset Hound was Penelope Josephine and my partner has Painter for a last name, so jlpp combines all. I go by Jenny, mostly but some call me Jenny Lee or Jennifer or Jenna/Jen. I almost exclusively say Jenny. My avatar is because I love pearls, rubies, rhinestones and generally all things sparkly.

Mine is aspirational, after finding YLF. I decided to try to be a little more mindful of updating styles and being pickier about fit. . At the time, a lot of blogs that I had fun reading, especially for older ladies, did toss around the f____ word and it didn't bother me to reference it. I thought it pretty apt for some of my choices and I felt I could now "see" that in some styles and outfits. Now it may be more politically incorrect, but I am not very inspired to change, until , well, some change inspires me! That might happen in a new leg of style journey, who knows.
The avatar is the default, again, because I don't tend to think in avatars or was not inspired and would not use a photo. I do love flowers, so that's ok!

Fun question. My name is Suzanne. When I first got to YLF, I went by just "ambergreen," but eventually I felt that it could be confused with a real first/last name, so I clarified it. I chose it originally because my eyes are heterochromic--they're in the hazel range, but one has more gold to it and the other is greener.

The picture is from an Art Deco style border design featuring a lotus (water lily) motif from ancient Egypt. I was charmed by the art of ancient Egypt quite early in life, but only in the last few years did I find out that my name actually comes from the ancient Egyptian word for that flower--(so, one step earlier than what the name dictionaries tend to say).

Caro in Oz

When I joined YLF I was just Caro. Some time later someone else called themselves caro & it got confusing so I changed it to Caro in Oz.
I used Caro because it is an abbreviation of my name Caroline &
because I live in Australia. It's also a nod to The Wizard of Oz, because I love old films.

I usually introduce myself as Caroline but a lot of people don't seem to hear the difference between Caroline & Carolyn so I answer to both.

Mochi

My Japanese husband has had a pet name for me, Mochihada, which refers to nice soft, pretty skin. So I shortened that to Mochi. I have certain circles of friends where I'm actually known as Mochi (pronounced various ways, like Moh-kee, and with nicknames like Mochaccino, etc.) I kind of like Mochi over Nancy, to be honest. Plus, for me it's only associated with friends: no employers, teachers, parents, etc have ever called me by that name.

It's weird when I think of my friends passing by the mochi ice cream at Trader Joe's, though. What must they be thinking?

My avatar name comes from the flower. My husband loves to do nature photography, and when we first met, he showed me lovely images of columbines. Later I was inspired to use the flower as a motif for calligraphy/painting for our wedding invitations.

Diana is my real first name. Way back when I first joined, I used my "internet" name, Akabori (and which I still use elsewhere), which is a childhood nickname and which some family members still call me IRL. The name itself was the name of the North Chinese Leopard (my favorite animal) at the San Diego Zoo when I was a kid.

My avatar is a picture of me in Oxford, England, on my way to a wedding in 2014. I had bought the fabulous British Wedding Hat at a hat shop there literally two hours before the wedding. (A fabulous hat was the only thing on my shopping list for that trip. I unfortunately did not find it in time for an event I attended at Westminster Abbey in London where I saw the Queen, but I did find it in time for the wedding!)

Funnily enough, my Instagram avatar is also a picture of me in a crazy hat (my giant black and white sun hat). I swear I don't wear statement hats all that often; apparently I just like to take selfies when I'm wearing them.

My picture is a grey heron. My husband and I are birders so it's appropriate, I think. My husband took the picture from the roof of our hotel in Istanbul. There was a rookery nearby and they kept coming and going. We went there twice because our son lived there and in the area for a couple years. I'm very happy he lives in the Midwest, now!!

My name is Janet, but there was already was a Janet, of course. Aileen is my middle name.

Everywhere else on the internet, I go by my first two initials and my last name (jhtatroe), because it's always available and I like consistency. However, Jenn was available here, and it's what my friends call me, so why not?!

This is my cat, Jett. I have another black cat but he isn't nearly so photogenic. We adopted both of them from the local animal shelter a little over 8 years ago. Jett is a real sweetie, although she can be a nag about brushing. She has three "stations of the brush" and many times I have to go from station to station to take care of her.

I was MsMaven on another forum long ago, but I don't remember which one, but it is now defunct.

My name is Susan, but there are myriads of Susans out there, as it was a popular name in my birth era. In fact, I have two sisters-in-law named Susan, same last name, but I am Susan The First.

I used to have my baby photo but got tired of it. I keep looking for another symbolic photo, but haven't found it yet.

Gaylene is my middle name and YLF is the only place where I use it. My family and friends find it hilarious that I'd spend time on a fashion forum. Only Mr. G and my mother (who passed away a couple of years ago) seemed unsurprised when I mentioned it to them--the two people who know me best.

My picture is a corner of a red book with just the edge of my black reading glasses showing on top. I'm a voracious reader--literary fiction, non-fiction, poetry, computer and science journals, newspapers, mysteries--basically anything as long as it's reasonably well-written. Moving into a condo meant parting with the bulk of my personal library which numbered in the thousands. Now my personal library is much smaller--just a few hundred print books at any one time. I've also convinced myself no one needs to know the size of my electronic library...

It was originally intended as a blog about backpacking, "pedestrienne" to suggest a woman who walks. (In the 19th century, competitive long distance walking was a big thing, and female walkers were in fact sometimes referred to as pedestriennes.) The nickname has followed me all over the internet. And its francophone flair became a self-fulfilling prophecy: I met my husband, a French Canadian, on a months-long backpacking trip.

Avatar (which I ought to update with longer hair -- my husband made this one for me last year) is from Le Boulematon, an avatar generator designed by French cartoonist Boulet. Accidental francophile over here. But hey, at least it's a consistent theme.

My real name is Kate, rhymes with "blank slate" -- when I was a kid I thought it was boring, now I prefer to think of it as open ended. Not short for anything, and people who call me Katie get the stink eye.

My avatar picture was taken by my boyfriend about 3 yr ago, it was a friend of mine wedding dinner (casual wedding dinner, not "church and ball" wedding dinner).
Once in a while someone calls me Má or Mari, but it's always been Marina for everyone, I never had any actual nicknames. Even in my first time working on a boat, when I was supposed to receive a ocean related nickname from my teacher, he decided there was no point in giving a Marina Vieira an ocean relate nickname because my true name is already oceanic enough :/

La Pedestrienne, I remember noticing hiking in your profile and realizing that must be the source of your name. In a past life I did plenty of long distance hikes in New England and I'm still a little surprised that I turned into such an urbanite. My brother stuck with it - he even lived on top of Mt Washington as a weather observer for a few years.

My name is a nickname I use on a few sites to refer to my monochrome style - but actually, I hardly ever wear grey per se. I like faded black denim but aside from that it's black and white.

My photo is from 2012, when I got my "new" glasses frames that I love. That side of my head is shaved now, so maybe I should update it. And my lenses are scratched - I want to keep the frames but it's definitely time for new lenses.
