I want a suit, but why??? Update: my conclusion.

I am so lusting after a bouclè Chanel-type suit. You know -- multi-colored threads woven together in a glorious pattern, collarless jacket with a no-close front, matching skirt (either pencil or with some lovely large pleats on the front side). You get the picture.

The 'why' of this relates to 'where' I would wear it. I envision musical concerts, theatre...and also using the jacket with informal pieces like denim jeans, and the skirt with solid-colored blouses in fabrics ranging from crepe to cotton. My fantasy about this suit probably comes from traveling in France and seeing how much CPW the French women get out of their suits.

Am I delusional? What's come over me? Does anyone else suffer from this suit-lust???

yes, but for me it's the fitted jacket with a pencil skirt. Swooooon.

If you find the right suit you should totally go for it. The tweed version you describe is a classic and will never date. I love suits - I have a very casual life style yet have four suits.

Angie and her suits persuaded me to invest in one a few years ago. And I have no real need for one at all in my life. But I have worn it for some occasions and it felt so right when I did. So, no regrets even though it may be the least worn item in my closet. It definitely ticked off some boxes for me. I say go for it if you want one!

Go for it, Shelia. But you have to be vigilant about fit. Alterations might be necessary. (I may or may not have the Chanel-esque bouclé suit hanging in my closet).

Another suit lover here but I've got no place to wear them. I enjoy both skirt and pants suits but skirt suits are my true love.

I love pant suits! It's not something I need for my casual lifestyle but they look so chic. I definitely suffer from suit lust.

Not crazy at all! Spring and Fall always have me wishing for that boucle/tweed. I was able to try on a few of Angie's picks for jackets but wasn't interested in any with metallics woven in) and didn't necessarily want full lining. This past weekend I did find a solid black woven jacket/sweater with fringe edging at Ann Taylor on final sale that fit perfectly so I was thrilled for with that.

Occasionally the consignment store near me get Chanel suits/jackets in and they are divine (but $$$$)- I love to look.

I adore suits. Of course you need a place and way to wear them. It is hard for me with my casual lifestyle. But I love them. Go for it.

Not crazy at all! Sometimes I want myself a nice pencil skirt, but I work at home, so my lifestyle is very casual. If I find a very special item like this, I can always wear it to church, and I see you have some venues in mind for your suit. I would definitely look around for one!

Gigi-the little church we attend now is super-casual. If I do find this fantasy suit and would wear it to church, everyone would assume that I was going some place after church where dressier attire was required. But no one would scoff at me, as they are all very good when it comes to letting everyone enjoy their personal preferences. My husband wears a coat and tie EVERY Sunday but no one else does. He says he does it because he does not want a visitor to show up wearing a tie and feeling out of place. A very good motive, I must say...it can feel daunting to enter a strange church.

I love them too! Though it's the ting- yang of issues: it's hard for me to get fitted in matching pieces, so I'm glad suits aren't required, yet the suit idea takes the worry out of coordinating fabrics and colors for mix-and-match.

I love a good suit (well it helps that I work as an accountant, so I get lots of wear from them). I also get to wear them out of work too if I have a semi dressy occasion: out for dinner; the theatre; opera; attending a wedding/christening/funeral - I feel fab in a suit. I find Chanel type suits the most fun to play around with too. The jackets are so versatile and you always feel a touch of the Chanel magic wearing one.

Ah, I love suits. I grew up wearing a suit as my school uniform and, after several years' break in college wear, was thrilled when I got to wear a suit every day to work. Suits made it so easy for someone like me, with no sense of fashion, to get dressed. My suiting up lasted until the early 2000s when a colleague complained that I was overdressed and intimidating clients. I looked around me and realised dress codes had changed. My suits weren't dated in style, but wearing them made me feel old and out of touch. I still buy suits but don't wear them much. I've fallen prey to comfort dressing and don't find the ones I loved -- crisp and woven -- comfortable on a daily basis. Your post and the responses have inspired me to wear mine again while I'm still working and have occasion to do so

You're not crazy. There are times when I want a suit. A good suit, though, is expensive and I have to ask myself how often I'll wear one if I buy.

Me too! I used to wear a suit every day to work which included both pants and skirts. Over the years my work environment changed to become more and more casual and now I work from home - for the same company. I still have 3 suits in my closet that survived the many purges. 2 pants suits and one skirt suit. Until this year I wore the blazer of the skirt suit when I wanted to dress up my jeans. The pant suit I would wear several times per year for various events. Now I have gained a few pounds I cannot fit into them. I tried to wear the blazer just this week and was so disappointed. I may replace it because it is so nice to have a capsule that you can depend on. I vote to try on a few and see if it is right for you.

I have decided to put this suit on my 'Rewards' list. I am working on losing some excess poundage...so far have shed 25 but still more to go. This suit will be my goal. I have been surfing through vintage Chanel suits and have not yet seen what I envision. I want the PERFECT color(s) for ME. So...I'm also checking the luxury fabric sites. While the per-yard prices are steep, it might be a better way for me to go. We shall see!

(Angie: my husband keeps wanting to go to Hong Kong. Would that be a good option for a nice buy on a custom suit?)
