I tried on the most amazing pants

But at $700 they stayed on the rack. Why don't more companies make 100% wool pants that are properly tailored?

The were by Max Mara from Nordies.

I found the perfectly tailored lined wool pants about 7 yrs ago . They were Ralph Lauren Black Label ....500.00. They stayed on the rack too
I found a much cheaper pr. that I still have but there are nothing like those RL.
Em, I think black wool pants are a basic ! They should have this nailed by now ...I am surprised that basically we have to buy a cheap version and have them altered .

oh Max Mara has such beautiful things! I browsed the stores this summer in Denmark and Italy and easily could have spent some $$

My favorite pair of pants were on sale for $400. I travel to about 25 mtgs a year. I always wear those pants at least one if not 2-3 times for each mtg. Still going strong.

Taylor, they are in the navy family. I've looked everywhere, but I haven't found a 100% wool high-waisted pant anywhere, especially not with the pleats, which I absolutely love. There is also about an extra foot of material in the leg so they are wonderful for tall women.

Let me take that back: I did find a less expensive brown/camel houndstooth pair of pants in the similar vein, also at Nordies, by Ralph Lauren, but they only have 1 size left. I don't know how I missed this pant all winter.

The perfect pr. Soooo hard to find especially with the extra fabric for length!

I would be tempted to try them. Would not keep unless “10”. Pants R me. More so than jackets. I did find great fit in my paper- bag waist wool pants in a lower price brand than this, but not cheap.
It is not always the high price-point pants that work, but there is a skew toward longer stride and great waistband construction, which is what give high- waisted trousers the fit I need for my body type, and often the better drapey wools.
This is where I need to remember that I can get items in this range if I don’t buy a lot of other stuff willy-nilly. It is like keeping budget in reserve so that if an item just really “gets you” and is luxurious you can bite and cut corners somewhere else.

That’s a bummer, but the price point would rule me out. Can you stalk them for a sale? Or find similar on max Mara website? Or if they are that much of a hewi, consider if they can be budgeted for?

to answer your 1st question...because they are expensive to make, because most customers are not looking for a wool tailored pant...retail is all a numbers game....
it might be worth trying to find a tailor who will do custom work....

They are lovely, and I’m betting the quality is terrific.

I tried on a wonderful pair of wide leg Proenza Schuler trousers in Austin at a discount designer boutique (where I did buy the Calvin Klein tuxedo stripe trousers and an Altuzarra skirt). The fit was so good, I was tempted, but the reality is I don’t need two pairs of black trousers, especially one so trendy as wide-legs with white stripes down the sides. But in trying on some of these higher end designs, I found their pants actually fit me better (!!) than most mid-range retail brands, AND they were long enough for me. I’ve filed that information away for the next time I feel like I need a pair of classic trousers.

I’m a lover of anything wool, and COS sells 100% wool trousers. I have a beautiful pair of plum-colored high-waisted, pleated wide-leg trousers that I bought last year. The style, the fit, and the fabric is exemplary. The price point was also extremely reasonable. COS always carries a good selection of 100% wool trousers for A/W.

This may start another conversation, but have you considered having them made for you? This is not as difficult as you might think, at least if you live near a major city. I had a suit made for me some years ago by Moon River by VJ in Thailand - they take appointments on their US tour every year. I went to a hotel in Chicago with a friend and looked at beautiful Italian wools. They measured us very politely and discreetly. There were samples available so we could choose lapels, number of buttons, pleats, etc. I had a pantsuit made and my friend ordered two blazers. My suit cost $400, fit perfectly, and is beautifully tailored. It took about a month after ordering it to be shipped to me.

They post city dates on their website, but without the year - so I am not sure If they were here in the fall of 18 or are coming in the fall of 19. This doesnt meet your NOW desire of course. But I highly recommend the experience.

I have recently purchased the Banana Republic Ryan Machine Washable wool pants. Good fit, lined, wash well and only need a little ironing before wearing. I bought my first pair in black and like them so much I bought another in navy. They are at my price point and even more so when they go on sale.
