I took my tailoring in yesterday -- how about you?

My fellow tailoring procrastinators -- I had my appointment with the dress-maker yesterday. She declined the denim jacket (which had already been declined by my dry-cleaner) because there is a big rivet on the waistband that cannot be worked around, but took two silk tops to make adjustments to the fit.

How is everyone else doing with getting their alterations done?

I dropped off material for a skirt and another for slacks last month...(before vacation summer shut down)...now waiting to hear when I can go back for the final fitting!

I love getting things tailored! I have a few items in the bag for when I get back from vacation. A good tailor is a mitzvah!

I took full advantage of my new alterations budget from Nordstrom this year! I had several NAS items that needed alterations and also took in 4 other pieces that have been sitting in my closet going unworn because the fit wasn't quite right - 2 pairs of slacks, 1 skirt and 1 pair of jeans.

Just got the call yesterday that they are ready to pick up! And I also remembered a pair of fab Joe's Jeans boot cuts sitting in my closet that are hemmed for high heels...they never get worn because I rarely wear jeans with high heels anymore. So, to get more wear out of them this next year, I'm taking them in to be hemmed to wear with my new red boots from the sale. Last year I added a pair of CofH skinny jeans that work perfectly with high heels (and flats!), so those will now be my "dressier" denims if needed. I'm feeling quite pleased!

Well, I got *one* thing to the tailor! A top with some short sleeves that I want shortened (I'm very picky about where they hit my upper arm). It was pinned to the right length so I didn't have to try it on at the tailor.

There are five more potential tailoring items in my holding bag. Three are a question of whether I should even try and keep them (a denim skirt that i'd like to take from slightly A-line to pencil, a pair of bermuda shorts that could use a little tapering, and a button front shirt that is now a size or two too big on the body). Two (a dress with too-long shoulder straps and a knit top with a little too much room across the body) are definite keepers that just need a nip or tuck to fit properly. In the past I just would have worn them without tailoring, but now I'm getting much pickier.

Good for you April! I also picked up some jeans that were getting a new zipper. I have a drop off for the tailor at the Rack (I still have budget on my Nordstrom allowance for the year) and need to dry clean a few items before I can bring them to the tailor. (does anyone else cringe at the thought of bringing unclean clothing to the tailor?)

Well, I'm taking baby steps. I have all my items that need altering and cleaning pulled on a separate clothing rack in my wardrobe. I'm trying to decide if I want to try a new tailor or continue to use the one through my dry cleaners. The cleaner sends things out, but they only have one person who can pin items for alterations and she works very limited hours. So, I'm getting there, but very slowly!

Great job! Now that I realize my cropped trousers are not cropped "just so" this went on my to do list for next weekend.

Still procrastinating. (hanging my head in shame) I just have a few small things I can do myself. Day off tomorrow, so I will do it!! Thanks for the reminder

I am like Janet, since joining this forum, growing fussier about the fit of my clothing.
As we are heading towards spring in Australia, I have a pair of thrifted jeans that I hacked (thanks Angie) to the proper length (I hope) and a dress I want lengthened so I can wear sans stockings with more comfort.
It is very satisfying to adjust an old item rather than buying more instead.

No one here in FL I trust, so not until I move back to CA. But . . . I did do 2 DIY's and tossed 2 other ill fitting things into the purge/sell pile.

High five to everyone who's making some progress in this area!

A funny thing happened when I went to the dressmaker on Saturday. She used to work out of her home, which is one town over from where I live. When I got there, there was a sign on the door saying the business had moved to a new address. When I went looking for the new address, it turned out to be almost literally in my backyard.

So now I *really* have no excuses...

Thanks to your nudge, April, I dropped off a dress to be hemmed, a skirt to be narrowed and a blouse to be cleaned this morning. I spot cleaned another skirt myself. Now I just have a wool coat that needs some alterations I can do myself and my fall wardrobe will be all prepped.

I've started pulling out all of the things that need to be fixed, including a couple of items that need small things to finish them. Since I do my own "tailoring" it might take a couple of weeks, but I hope to get it all finished and then I can work on some projects I want to do.

Another couple of baby steps today. I gave myself a day at home to clean up my home office and eliminate some of my "project piles."

One of them was a small stack of mending (stuff that I can do without a tailor!) -- a couple of missing buttons, a neckline that needed another couple of stitches, and a gapping dress that got a couple of stitches as well.

If only all of my other "project piles" were solved so easily!
