That's an important observation- how easy it is for too much time going by without a break. Then we choose other ways to re-charge our batteries, but for me, ultimately, it is the change in routine and enjoying a fresh environment that is most restorative. Here's to experiences.

Sometimes, even without time away, we try to build in some cool local things that help during the non-away leisure times. I am pretty good at optimizing time on the ground during vacation, but have to work harder to take full advantage of what is in my backyard.

Anna, you deserve a real, long vacation. Shopping or not, it is necessary to have time to relax and recharge. Your job is stressful enough without the additional stress of never getting a break. I hope you can arrange for some quality vacation time this year!

This is a great observation. One of my biggest culprits to overshopping is giving myself a "treat" because of a hard day at work. It's something I've had to work on and still catch myself thinking on the way home, "oh I want to stop for just one thing since I worked so hard today." It's a really bad habit.

A couple years ago I finally started making a week vacation every year a priority. It's amazing what a difference it makes to get away for a period of time. I hope you can manage it this year.
