I shrunk out of my suit (wasn't exciting, brown JCrew pants). I'm thinking a sharp, narrow trousered suit. Rag & Bone did a special suit for Barneys that was awesome, but I think it's long gone

I tried it on when I was looking for a bowieball outfit. The whole thing was way too long on me. I know it is no R&B but the sharp shouldered jacket is the bomb.

Sounds like the blue would not work then... Allsaints has some very nice tailoring pieces too.... They look conservativish but still have a lot of flair. Theory maybe? They never work for me but maybe they will work for you?

anna, if you're going to acog, i think a blue suit would work. of course it would depend if you're doing committee work and which comm. anyway, i can't see you going too corporate even in a "suit".

eta...fall suits are the most versatile and the fabrics spans at least three seasons.

The Allsaints suits look great but the fit is squirrely IMHO, having tried just about every jacket online. I would love to see what you uncover - I was thinking of just doing the j. crew suiting. I want to look like Ellen Degeneres in those makeup ads she does now.

I wanted a new lightweight wool blazer, low stance and on the long size, and just purchased this one from BR:

It was 30% off when I got it on Friday in LA. It is much better than the picture, looks a lot less boring. They do have some straight leg pants as well, but they might not be as modern as you like. My friend and I both bought this jacket, she bought hers in light grey or taupe, I can't remember. I am very picky about fabric and workmanship, this one passed my test. The jacket looked great on both of us, we both have hourglass figures. It was TTS.

I tried on that bright blue Express jacket but it didn't work on me and the fit was not flawless to my eye.

I live in Seattle, temps most of the year range from 40-60 something. We have 1 to 2 months of summer tops. I think I want wool.

I seem to remember Angie saying that in "our" climate (Seattle & Antwerp have pretty similar weather) one could wear a light-weight wool suit at least three seasons per year.

The R&B suit rocks, and you would rock that suit. I can't wait to see which one you end up getting.

Anna, I hate to be a party pooper but as someone who owns 5 suits (black, blue, brown, white, and pink) and works in a conservative profession with theoretically many occasions to wear them, I very rarely gravitate to them except in the most formal of situations. Instead I tend to wear the pieces separately, and paired with other items in my wardrobe. So if you really are set on getting a suit, consider also whether the pieces individually will work with other items in your wardrobe. You might find more versatility (and perhaps better fit) searching separately for a fab blazer and a well-fitting pair of trousers. I also vote in favor of lightweight wool. Also, lining is de rigeur for jackets, but lined pants are a rare these days but a necessary luxury IMHO.

I vote for the Nancy jacket, the vest and the shorts - because I can't decide between the pants. The vest is my favorite piece, but the Nancy jacket has such a fabulous cut and it's hard to find something that perfect.

Anna, suits aren't seasonal for us. We can wear them year round. Also, I can see you mixing and matching the suit items as separates with your current wardrobe.

I like all the jackets, so it's a question of fit. Love the waistcoat. Do not fancy the cropped trousers, but love the other trousers. If the shorts are baggy and long enough, my thumbs are up.

I took my sister-in-law shopping this weekend and could not convince her that suits could be anything but staid and boring. You of all people could make a suit look edgy and wonderful. I'm waiting with baited breath!
