I need to stop ordering stuff.

I think with working NAS, my comfort levels have been at an all time low, and this has put me into a kind of panic over comfy things. I have ordered a couple of shoes that have been rated very comfy by reviewers, a dress to go with my comfy tall Fryes, and now a cardi/jacket hybrid from Modcloth since my one cardigan has proven so much more useful for work than my jackets... Oh, and a cat print dress and a quirky bag DH and I saw in Italy, just because I've been searching a long time for those and they finally appeared for cheap and it's our anniversary this month.

But now NAS is over. Hopefully my feet will get a rest, so I need to just stay calm, return whatever doesn't make me weep with comfort, and quit ordering new things!

Fabbers, please help me stay strong here... that is, give a firm verbal smackdown if you hear about any new orders from here on out. I will be counting the days down to Shoptoberfest, lol!

Rae, that's so relevant to lots of short-term situations--good post and stay strong!
For me it can be similar--overduplicating comfort shoes or FFBO's. Or overinvesting in one season or another when I'm in the middle of it, instead of keeping track of how to apportion $$ and closet space over 4 seaons.
We have to try to remember the pay-offs--not overdoing in one area allows for more variety or better filling of wardrobe holes, having at least something appropriate and fun for every occasion and not overdoing on one or another.

Long retail days are killer on the body. I worked my first retail job at 13 (my mom had a stunning 2,500sq ft gift shop). My legs ached after long days even then. It seems like you're still sorting out what is help you stay as fresh and comfortable as possible, but you're right to only keep the best!

Getting ready for Fall myself and need to stop as well. i am super motivated as my DD still needs so much and want to funnel the money her way to help her out. I bought two pairs of oxfords today, as other than ballet flats, I am missing flats for my MOTG life....

Another here who'd like to keep the shopping toned down. It is just too darn easy to order online. And so many things to entice. I've been actually limiting my time here because so many people were buying, buying, buying during NAS and seeing all of that tempts me even more! I have plenty of things to wear - and at most could use another pair of fall/winter shoes and some accessories.

I'll join the others and try to help you (and myself) stay strong.

It's so easy to get carried away, and I am guilty as charged, too. I hope you will feel more rested now when NAS is over, and that you will feel less urge to shop for things you really don't want. I've bought a red skirt from ebay today, and I intend to let that be my main purchase in August. We'll see Remind me of this if I show off anything else new here, ok? I'll be watching you, too

Rae, I am joining your club!! After NAS I promptly went out and ordered from the J. Crew sale!! And I still NEED waterproof boots!!

I also want to affirm what Beth Ann said about retail sales being killer hard on the legs and feet. I worked in the perfume and wallet departments of Simpsons as an undergrad and it was pure misery. Waiting tables was hard work, but fine for my legs and feet. I actually loved the physical exertion and did fine with all the walking (which I enjoyed). In comparison, the standing I did in retail was so SO painful.

Yep - me too. Even though I mostly shop the used market rather than the new - I've been overdoing it. I have one more outing scheduled tomorrow, to a Goodwill that's referred to as locals as the "Gucci-will". I should spend, but probably will. Afterwards, My wallet must stay zipped. I have enough. I must stay strong.

One thing that I think is helping me curb the itch to shop is making lists of what I own, and outfit combinations that I can make with them. It helps me to see that even with what I own, I couldn't wear all the reasonable combinations even once in a season. So clearly I don't need to add to it.

I ended up revamping my fall wardrobe with NAS this year. Which meant lots and lots of ordering and returning. I was also working long hours so it was a challenge to get to the store. I ordered so much, and often items came individually shipped. I'm surprised UPS is still willing to deliver to my home!

Oh yes. Discomfort and fatigue seem to be making me shop too. Big time. And since my current shape is definitely temporary, I need to keep reminding myself of the original plan: shoes, scarves, and other holes/replacements only... but so far am losing the plot.

Oh my....after my day at the mall, I need to ask if I can join your club! Over the weekend I managed to sort out my closet and see what I needed for the upcoming F/W season. Then I looked at the many boxes that arrived from NAS and determined what would work with what I already have. Today I took all the misfires back with the intention of returning and immediately leaving the store. Then like a fish to shiny object, I managed to find some other pieces that are perfect! Oh darn.....

This is one time of year I have difficulty not ordering. Sales on summer. Sales on fall. ACK. I kept it at bay for NAS mostly (but have a few last minute items on their way which may result in returns). I did order from Jcrew sales more this year (they had free shipping!). But my worst is I ordered 6 pair of shoes for my DD. Eek. Does a soon to be 5 year old need that? They were all under $25, all different colors and or styles but still I think I may have overdone a bit.

I am seriously on a shopping ban now. My project is ending in two weeks and I'll be hunting for a new one. But boy, I would really like a black tube skirt now...

I completely understand. While on my trip I was completely seized by the desire to shop for cute skimpy dresses and t-shirts which would have been great for the vacation but have little relevance to my daily reality. Situational shopping is a problem for sure.

Maybe think of these short term events as you would when packing for a trip. Then variety is not as important as function and cohesiveness.
