I Need a Mini-Makeover! - YouLookFab Forum

It's the end of a very hard year, and I'm feeling like I need a little something.

Glasses and Hair:
Lighter? Golden Brown? Reddish Brown? Highlights? I like it dark, but 1) the gray roots show up so quickly, and 2) very dark is starting to feel a bit harsh. I just got it cut short again (like the profile pic) but I think I want to let it grow out again. (Don't like it so short.)

I'm also thinking of going back to my red glasses (the ones in my profile pic.) They're a bit bigger.
For the last year I've been wearing narrower, black frames. I like them - they're hip, and they have a golden yellowish color on the inside - but it's time for my yearly prescription tweak, and since I can't really afford new frames, I could go back to the red ones. What do you all think?
#1 - red frames (picture is about a year old)
#2 - black frames (picture from this summer)
(I just noticed I'm wearing the same pendant in both pics!)

Oh, Tarzy!! Mini makeovers are so important for a pick me up aren't they!!

I love your hair short and dark too! Perhaps have your stylist lift the base a level or so...so it is not so dark and add some low maintenance subtle highlights...or add some funky, chunky bolder highlights like Marney wears...either way ..I think highlights would look great with your FAB red frames!!!

I like the frames in #2 best. I just started getting highlights (caramel color) in my dark hair and it looks much better than all dark. I'm older than you (54) and I felt too old for all dark hair.

I like the smaller frames better on your face. However, (at least from what I can tell from these pictures) I like the red color better (I know, not helpful) because it adds some warmth. Maybe some warm highlights (golden or reddish or both) will help counteract the coolness of the black frames? Also, I like the haircut in picture 2 better on you. So I agree with growing your hair out a bit.

Tara, here's hoping to a better 2011! In the meantime, I'm crazy for the small, black frames and love the idea of some subtle caramel to accent the beautiful golds in your eye color. I think shorter or longer your hair is gorgeous. If you prefer it longer, go for it!

I'm a highlight vote, less harsh and maintenance than a one color look. I like both frames, but vote black for now and red for warmer months for some fun.

Hm, I actually LOVE your look in photo 2. (shorter hair, black frames). I like the halo your curls make around your face, so I think going even a bit shorter would be fun. Not sure about highlights. What about a slightly richer color of brown, all over? The grow-out would be subtle, but the effect would be new.

I also think you'd look stunning in a deep lip color...

I heartily recommend highlights! You can start subtle and warm and see how you feel about them. I'm 52 and feel my real/dark color is so draining on me. With age I have lost the natural cheek blush and lip color, so dark hair does look pretty stark and unflattering for my face :-\

In fact, when I get too much dark root (I let it go about 3 months between foilings), I feel drab inside. When I get the highlights done, I feel so much brighter inside. It sounds dumb, but it works that way for me. . .

As for the glasses, I like either frame on your beautiful face

Tara, I love the shape of the frames in #2, but am 100% in favour of going back to red to offset the black in your wardrobe, AND to bring out the green in your eyes - red and green are complimentary colours.

Red frames + purple coat = KILLER.
