Seattle set all time record weather temperatures today. It’s 101 in the city right now (where I live), and still climbing. It’s even hotter in the burbs away from the water. We usually have perfect Summer days that range between 78 and 85 degrees. No humidity. This is INSANE.

It feels like Austin! I guess I’m a little more used to the heat because I grew up in HK and spent 17 years in Africa. Still, even though we have AC, homes are not geared up for the heat here (they aren’t geared up for the heat in Western Europe either) and people are literally dying. Very sad.

Loads of lasses of all ages walking around in the shortest of shorts and the skimpiest of tops. I’ve also seen people wearing bikini tops in the city. Give you one guess what I’m wearing today.

Hang in there Seattleites! It will back in the 80’s next week.

I guess you are wearing a volumness dress to let the air circulate around you on such a hot day.
It is over 106 on our thermometer on the back deck.
I am wearing my just received Boden clams and a tank top. I like these clams alot but they seem to have a funny zipper that goes off to one side. Details like that bother me. I have been wearing them for a couple of hours. I wonder if I should send them back?

Um...that's our average summer temp LOL
People always say "OH, but it's a dry heat", which is true most of the time. But, when we have a heatwave (which means 105+) the heat attracts humidity for some reason. So, while we aren't humid like Texas;105 with 35% humidity is much different than 102 with 15% humudity - trust me!
What's your humidity? Heatwaves suck, no matter where you are. They can be really dangerous if you aren't prepared. I hope all of you Seattle-ites stay hydrated and move slowly today! Carry a spray bottle of water and mist yourself occasionally, and drink something with electrolytes. Well, that's what I do when it's insanely hot.

LOL! I wondered what this thread was going to be after reading your title. High heat and humidity can definitely have a negative effect on the style quotient of a city. On the other hand we are enjoying record low temperatures and what may be the coolest July in history. Hang in there.

Angie - we have no A/C and our home faces west. At the moment, it's 85 inside the house upstairs. I'm going out in our miniscule backyard with my son to play in the slip & slide. So - I have my bathing suit on and then plan on staying in the basement and maybe hitting the movies with the kids tonight. Even though it's close, the beach has no shade at all so that's not a great option either.

I have a meeting tomorrow and I just bought a semi-sack dress at Marshalls. I heard it's going to be just as hot tomorrow. I love nice weather but this is just a little too much! How are your doggies holding up? I got up at 6:30 to take Maddie out today before it got too warm.

Angie I was going to start a thread asking what you're wearing in this head! I'm staying close to home in my convertible American Apparel jersey dres, tied strapless, and flip flops. And water. I think sushi might be in order tonight. No AC here! Poor chickadee is sleeping with a wet washcloth on her head.

102 here on the Eastside. I've lived here nearly all my life and am not sure I have EVER seen it quite like this. I'm SO glad we sprung for a portable AC unit last year.

Hope that all of the local YLF pets are doing okay. My dog is a Sheltie - primarily black with a very thick fur coat and undercoat - who is used to being outdoors, but this week she cannot go outside for more than a minute except for VERY late at night.

I was just logging on to ask you Seattle-ites how you are faring, after reading the national weather reports. It *is* hard to have heat like that, in a place that doesn't normally get that hot. You have my sympathies. Angie, I'm glad you have AC. Those of you who don't, please take care!

Here in Boston we broke down and have had the AC on for the last week, after seeing how long we could go without (which wasn't too hard, since we've had an unusually cool summer until now) and also motivated by the idea that any savings could be applied towards NAS purchases.

It's been "only" high 80s this past week, but very high humidity - the sort where you keep thinking it just has to rain any second now. But all in all, not so bad here. Since we have AC. It's kind of nice to go outside and feel the heat - knowing it's not going to last!

My dog is also not taking the heat well. She keeps pacing around. She does not have a long coat so it seems she wouldn't suffer this much. I gave her a refreshing bath today.
I went out to put water on the garden and immediately started sweating and burning up. The sun is so hot up here.

It's easily 103 over here in Redmond now, Angie! Predicted to top off at 104. Any makeup I had on melted hours ago! Our house has NO air conditioning and no way of catching a cross-breeze so I imagine its 103 inside the house as well. I got into the van after running errands and the thermometer said 114.

I'm wearing a ribbed tank top with floaty skirt. Bare feet. My only accessory is an ice pack on my neck....

Oh my! That's a dangerous heat wave ... drinks loads of water everyone (human and animals) and hang low. Here's hoping it cools off soon!

Ugh, that sounds awful! There is a difference between 100+ with 15% humidity and 35-40% humidity, BUT, at least here in Austin we have a little time to get used to it. It doesn't go from 75 to 105 within a couple of days (well, sometimes, but not usually). That makes it very difficult to deal with. And every place has AC here. Brendan and I keep the apartment at about 80, and turn on fans to save money on electricity. If things get really oppressive though, we have the option of turning down the temperature.

Keep cool, everyone! Take cold showers, and if your dog is not already overheated, you can spray them with the hose. The water evaporating off the animals will make it cooler for them. Also, ice packs or putting a wet towel in the freezer works if you don't have an ice pack.

EDIT: I just found this good article about signs and prevention of heat stroke in animals. Those of us living in the south are probably familiar with these signs, but I thought it might be useful for those of you in Seattle in case you're not used to dealing with this sort of thing:

UGH! I hear you! It was around 105 in Portland today. Many people have been affected by it, and that is sad. My husband and I spent about 5 hours in the mall since it was air conditioned. I went to the sheriff's office to get fingerprinted for a job and they said many people aren't changing their clothing and routines to accommodate for the heat, and THAT can impact a human body greatly (like trying to go for a run when you are used to 20 degrees cooler, eating huge amounts, drinking lots of caffeine and no water).

I wore a day dress today with ballet flats - I wish I had worn open-toed shoes or sandals!

LE, I've found that wearing open toed shoes can make a HUGE difference in how cool you feel. It's weird, but it works.

Since we're on the topic of weather and stuff, you all should come visit us here in Austin! The best time is October 15-November 15. While it's freezing up north, here it will be 75 and nice (well, historically). Consider yourselves officially invited! We can meet for tea.

Yup...hot!! We've got AC in the living room, but every where else in our apartment it's like 90 or 95 degrees. wow...keep cool, everyone. It can't last forever, right?

I confess to being an utter wuss without air conditioning. I was okay in college since I was in a high rise building and it was a bit cooler at the higher elevation, but in general I am very heat intolerant. It must be a nightmare to deal with that kind of heat in a place where you're just not prepared for it! Stock up on frozen desserts. I'm partial to icy fruity types. Ice cream or anything dairy-based just feels heavy in that kind of heat. But ice and crisp fruit is cooling.

I am so lucky to be in the Silicon Valley right now where the temperature is *always* nice. It was a pleasant day today, maybe high 70s. I go back to Chicago soon though, where the weather is always miserable.

Hang in there! It will be winter before you know it so enjoy the heat and fab summer clothes while you can!

Toronto is having my favourite weather right now : ) Overcast, cool and rainy: perfect for a rehead who wilts in the heat and shuns the sunlight. I hope it cools down soon, Angie.

It gets hotter than that in summer where we are (australia)- that is what prompted some of my "its soo hot" esque posts 6 months ago!

We have AC so Jasmine and Rosie are fine. They’ll do their biz in the garden but no walks today. Thanks for the concern. Sorry to those who are suffering in the heat. It’s absolutely wretched. Unfortunately tomorrow will be just as hot, but perhaps we’ll sneak in a little morning walk.

It’s 11.30pm and still 90 degrees. Unbelievable. You can cut through the heat with a knife. Marlene, I don’t think it could ever be hot enough for me to be sans my bra! But it was sack frock and KC wedges while I worked today - in and out of AC. I stayed perfectly cool.

So it was 40 degrees Celsius today with 25% humidity. The hottest I’ve ever been in was 53 degrees Celsius for a whole week (127 degrees Fahrenheit). We were on a canoe trip on the Orange River in South West Africa (Namibia). You can’t believe how anything can live away from the water it was SO, SO HOT. I can leave my tiara at home if I have too :0)

I can't even imagine 127 degree heat! Ack. Moderate normal Seattle summers are fine by me.

Ana, that is a smart article. Thanks for posting it. My dog just seems miserable and bored because she can't run around outside as usual, but she's well hydrated and pretty cool lying near a fan.
I've heard about several local animals suffering from heat stroke - I hope people watch their pets very carefully and keep them in the shade.

I just laughed out loud at San's comment about the Boden clamdiggers. The first time I had to unfasten the button & zipper, my normal unfastening hand motions felt very clumsy, and I realized it's because the fly folds over to the left instead of to the right. I wonder why? (Is it a UK thing?)
