I know I'm supposed to be SYC but . . .

As I think about my move back home this winter I start to realize my older long sleeved tops aren't really my style anymore. Also I have exactly 2 tunics. I know, excuses excuses . . . What do you think?

Wow, that is really a different style of top. I think if you keep everything else super simple, "yay". Very edgy and hip!

Okay, just so we get an idea of where I'm leaning AWAY from, here is the green top I had prior to this FL move. I did recently remove the bow/tie but it still feels . . . I don't know, sweet to me.

EDIT: I bought this 6 years ago and have worn it maybe 4 times, so perhaps it was never really 'me'.

Do you love that top Mo? If you feel like it's a unique piece that you can't do without and fits exactly where your style is going then i say go for it. But the fact that you're asking us if we think it's too Star Trek-y (which, btw, i love Star Trek ) makes me feel like maybe you should stay on the wagon and just keep your eye open until you find something you are 100% positive about.

Nicole, you know I sort of just stumbled upon it, but yeah, I do love it. I also love Dsquared and Custo Barcelona and some of the All Saints. I can't afford much of any of it, though. I am realizing that I want to move further away from sweet (except for breezy summer dresses) and more toward edge and utility/military looks. It's slowly been happening since I turned 40 and just yesterday when I was trying to find shoes to make my outfit not suburban mom material (since I'm not a suburban mom - no offense to anyone!) I realized there is a certain edge I like even if very subtle. Whew. Didn't know I had so much to say about it!!

Mo, as someone who is going through a similar evolution (yes, similar tops are leaving my closet too), I say yay. I like that it's unique! But the ultimate test is to see it on, so I'll be anxiously awaiting pics!

Taylor, it is 100% cotton - why, is that bad? I'm confused lol! I am also curious that I have more nay votes on the 'ticker' but more yay votes in the comments. Hmmm . . . I am heavily leaning toward adding this and breaking SYC. It will, after all, be a 1 in 1 out trade with the old polka dot top!

Mo, from some of your old tops you've posted I can see what your style was like - I had lots of tops like those too, in some sort of easy to pack stretchy materials with patterns. I am also far more inclined to the deconstructed look these days, or at least the edgy/military/post-apocalyptic vibe.

The green shirt you've posted is almost but not quite right to my eye. The tie on the side seems incongrous with the rest of the outfit, and it does have a bit of a Trekkie vibe. I'd like to see more flaring out somewhere and less of the fussiness with the little buckle AND the ties. I totally get the appeal of it though!

Mo, because of the lacing detail and unusual shape ..hand washing or machine wash could alter the shape and color. To keep it pristine .... shape and color perfect i would dry clean.

I vote "almost yay". I really like it, except for the very bottom. If it would stop right where that seam is, I would love it. But then it has that bottom section and to me it seems a little bit off.

If your move isn't until this winter and you're wanting it for that, it still gives you time to find one that you know is a "yay" without hesitation.

Well, for better or worse, it's coming home to me. The proof will be in the pudding, I mean pics! I remember trying on a solid green tunic in this color many months ago and almost being swayed by it but I wasn't quite ready yet. We shall see . . . and, yes, I'm terrible at SYC! I'm tossing the dot shirt though, to make room

That sounds good--pictures can make a world of difference. And honestly, I'd have a hard time only doing SYC for a specific/deliberate amount of time. It's something I generally do as I really do not buy much or buy pricey items, but to ban myself from shopping completely would be really, really difficult, so I understand when you say you are bad at it!

And if you have only worn that dot shirt 4 times in 6 years, and you sound like you hate it, then yes, toss it!

I agree with Una that it is *almost* right but not quite. And you saw Star Trek before we did and, in my experience, what has been seen cannot be unseen (yes, I got that quote from icanhascheezburger.com).
