I kind of want blunt bangs - YouLookFab Forum

What do you guys think? Yay or nay?

I have a pair of clip-in bangs that I took a picture of to give you an idea. They're too long-- I think instead of going and getting real bangs, I might get another pair of clip-ins and trim them to the correct size (I like this pair at this length for a side-swept style). I still want to know if I should go to the trouble of doing this though! And should I get a hairstylist to do this for me? It would be more expensive, but I feel like they would do a much better job with the length, lol.

So my questions:

1) Yay or nay to blunt bangs for me?
2) What length?
3) Should I get a hairstylist to cut a pair of clip-ins for me?

#1 is me with too-long fake bangs.
#2 is my current hair/bang situation, although it's usually wavy, and in the photo I've got it straightened.

I wonder if your forehead may be too short for blunt bangs. I would get your hairdresser to cut an inch or 2 off the clip you had and try that first. I grew my bangs out a while back and still remember how annoying it was. I'm not sure how your skin is, but with bangs, you'll find more more pimples pops up underneath them.

Do you like your hair parted in the middle? When you part in the middle and flat iron your current bangs, what happens? Can we see a pic? It just seems to me that your bangs are already fairly close to blunt bangs, no? It's all in the way you've got them styled?

My oldest daughter rocks the blunt bangs... when the hairdresser cuts them that way, she cuts bangs further into the hair on the sides, if that makes sense? You have enough hair to do that. You see how in pic 1 it seems like you have too much hair on the sides? You'd chop off maybe 1/2 an inch or so of your long locks.

Oh wait... pic 2 is with the fake bangs? D'oh. I thought you already had bangs. I think you look awesome in bangs. Done the right way, you can wear them blunt *or* side swept, just depends on the part and the styling. Bangs would play up/frame your beautiful eyes! Just realize they are quite the commitment.

Jyoti, I actually think the opposite: light layered bangs to the side or no bangs. Agree with others that you want to show your face and forehead, thick bangs will crowd your features and make them "disappear"

I've seen blunt bangs mentioned both in the current issues of InStyle and Marie Claire. At least a couple of pages in each magazine. I vote yes. I'm considering going back to them.

I like the idea if, as you say, the bangs are a tad shorter. The nice thing about the clip-ins is that presumably they'll stay straight as opposed to your own hair (I have wavy hair too and my bangs never stay straightened, ever).

@rute: Heh! These are definitely too long! I might get this clip-in pair trimmed!

@Kristin: It might! I do have a small forehead. I do have acne-prone skin, so thank you for the warning!

@shiny: I usually do a side part. I haven't actually tried a middle part with my current bangs! I will definitely try that and post. My bangs are currently cut at an angle so they slowly get longer towards one side.

I'll tell you a secret-- I actually don't have that much hair. It's all an illusion! That's why I'm sort of scared to go for blunt bands too.

pic #1 is fake bangs and pic #2 is my current real hair.

The commitment! I know! There is lots more flatironing in my life thanks to bangs. xD

@una: That's very sweet of you to say! I will definitely not get bangs as long as pic #1, haha. They will not be poking into my eyes. xD

@centerseattle: I have light layered bangs to the side at the moment! Perhaps I should play with clip-ins then!

@Laura: So true! My hair's exactly the same way.

I think I'm leaning towards chopping a bit off the clip ons. I'm gonna see if I can pick up another pair, since they're rather cheap online.
