I just don't get it... sockless feet??

I love Jessica Quirk's blog and mean no criticism towards her whatsoever. But I was surprised when I checked this morning... her picture is big on my screen so I slowly scrolled down...

beautiful coat, check
warm turtleneck, check
jacket layer, check
long jeans, check

And no socks!!! Brrrrr

I'm sure it's NOT a fashion faux pas, but my brain can't wrap around needing all these coat layers and then not wearing socks and boots. I think some fashion bloggers have feet that have their own independent heat source.

Anyway, I really like the outfit... I just don't understand it. I keep wanting to put boots on all those bare feet across the blogosphere.

Umm not sure if I'm seeing the wrong picture. She is wearing pointy toed black pumps.

Yes, Zap, it's a bit confusing. Brenda means not wearing any kind of socks or other covering for most of the foot.

I don't mind that at all.... pretty common to see people wearing this type of shoes around these parts in the midst of winter. As long as there is no snow in the ground, it's ok to me.

JQ may be cold. She may not be cold. I guess Brenda's reaction is like mine when I see someone with weird piercings on their face. It's not my face, but I feel pain, LOL.

(I do suspect she's cold. I'm not one of those "sacrifice it all in the name of fashion" types....in fact because of the possibilities of inciting these reactions in others, beyond issues of my own comfort, I would tend not to wear something that made my judgment look questionable!)

I don't get it either. My feet get so cold in winter, I can't fathom having no socks!

I hear you guys - and agree!

FWIW, she does say: " I know someone is going to point out those bare ankles! While I was chilly on my 2 minute walk from the car to the office, I also did a mental ranking of most important to least important body parts for optimal comfort. My ankles don’t really bother me that much.".

That said, I run cold and my extremities are the first parts of me to feel cold, so I'm always wearing socks, even indoors, during the winter...

I will wager that she is warmer in full length jeans and pumps with her ankles exposed (briefly to the elements), than if she was wearing a skirt and tights. I don't see the big deal.

Since it's winter I've been wearing my boots, and it's occurred to me that with boots my feet are absolutely warm. And it also occurred to me how much that goes toward my overall physical comfort. Much more than my hands, for example. My feet are not thrilled to be cold, and are downright miserable to be wet. And then I'm not a happy camper all-around.

I agree with those voting for warmth. If it were me, I would have worn boots into the office and changed into shoes there.

I do that most days anyway to protect my shoes from all of the damage the thick layer of salt over everything does to them.

I see this mostly on modern male preppy blogs. They'll be wearing a warm coat and maybe a sweater, but no socks saying, my feet never get cold. That may be true, but to me it's an affectation, and really silly looking.

I'm happy to be weird and often go sockless, the seams on socks can drive me bonkers, they slide down my ankles and they bunch under my instep. I would rather brace the cold than be tormented any day of the week

Hmmm, I like this a lot. It doesn't look weird to me - it just looks like a winter outfit for a place that has no 'real' winter (ie a place where it's in the 40s (5-10) in January).

I'm with you. If my feel are cold, then the rest of me is cold. I have to have socks on or at least tights.

I suspect if you are a young fashion blogger dressing "appropriately" for the weather may not be the first priority. As CF points out, it also helps if you live in a place that doesn't go below 40F in the winter.

Brenda, I'm so glad you brought this up. For those living in my climate (or similar) this looks seasonally confused and I have been having similar thoughts looking at the fashion bloggers of late. If they're someplace warm or even moderate, that is one thing. But I can't imagine going sockless in weather like ours here in Eastern Ontario. Even though, like Julie (RoseandJoan) I really seriously dislike wearing socks! It's not the sockless LOOK I don't like (I do like it); it's the the sense that a person walking around like that can NOT be dressing to keep herself comfortable. As Gaylene says, it's not a priority.

MInd you, I'm looking out the window at a foot and a half of snow, -18C temps, and more snow falling....

In Texas you could get away with this some days not today but usually. I did pin this though for inspiration. I would have never thought to layer my Blue jean jacket under my leopard jacket.

Maybe she has indoor heating in her house and workplace and heating in the car. So it is just a dash from the front door to the car! But when it is winter, the season has changed and the feet need to be warm!

I am all bundled up and sockless as I type, lol. I wear socks in my boots but only if they do not show. Is it a California or West Coast thing?

If it didn't snow here, I probably wouldn't wear socks at all. I run exceptionally warm. But the flats would look seasonally confused here during the winter. I think that is the bigger issue for me as well.

I don't mind the look on others. sockless feet dont bother me as long as they are not mine. I wear socks almost 9 months out of 12 here in Eastern Ontario as I have extremely cold feet.

Another weird one here - I love my boots but I don't wear them for warmth. We do have mild winters - no nights below freezing.

Hmmm. I was planning on going sockless with ballet flats tomorrow at work. Since it's only 30-35 F this week, I was going to wear my furry boots in and change at my desk. Now I'm wondering if my coworkers will think I'm nuts! :p

I have, in the past, worn nude hose on these cold days. They're surprisingly warmer than going sockless.

Brenda, I don't get it either. The outfit is tres cute, but not practical IMO. An outfit to blog, but not to wear in reality. I remember a few years ago when there seemed to be a trend for wearing sandals in winter. One of my co-workers and I walked a few blocks to a luncheon in near freezing temps after a light snowfall. I was wearing boots, she was wearing strappy sandals. I felt so sorry for her poor toes.

Sometimes, we have to realize that THE LOOK needs to be interpreted for real life.
Surely this woman does not think that it is realistic to bundle up from head to ankle and then wear little flats and no socks.

My husband wears sandals without socks all year round. I've seen him walk barefoot in the snow to get wood for my parents Woodstove. Cold just doesn't bother some people the way it does others.
