Now that I have found this sight (YLF) I can't wait to emulate the role models here, I'm starting to enjoy shopping, looking for some wardrobe items that will give a little "zing" to my outfits, but I feel like I'm all over the map and not really focused on the right thing. I felt like all I had in my wardrobe are the work horses, the basics, and as a result was trying to interject some color with scarves and such, and now I feel like I'm going over the edge, shopping to much and maybe spending money I should be saving for more classic items..what strategy do you use?

I know the feeling as I can say for sure I have been there. The best thing to do is hire Angie to get you going in the right direction. If that is not a possability, just knowing that you are doing this, is really a good start to getting more organized. I think it is important to just have fun, and it sounds like you are.

I was like that at first too, and I also had the issue of undergoing a dramatic weight loss at the time so my closet was going through continual overhauling. Luckily by the time my weight stabilized I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted my style to be, and now after a year I am finally at the point where I add pieces slowly to my closet.

I had a pretty big budget to do my transformation, but I have found in the last 4-5 months that I put myself on a much smaller budget than I had been on, and it hasn't been a problem at all to stick to it.

My, do I sound like a broken record, but if you fear you are shopping too much or spending too much set yourself a monthly budget.

I'm concentrating on building the areas of my wardrobe which I wear the most, I'm spending my budget on casual clothes, smart casual pieces and once they are in place I will update my business casual wardrobe. I have no need to add to my evening wardrobe and lounge wear can certainly wait.

I'm a neutral girl at heart, I love black, cream, white, grey and navy blue. I'm now trying to inject some colour in the form of a couple of signature pieces which will work with my existing wardrobe. I have my eye on a striped Boden skirt

I'm not trying to change my style per se, more enhance it. My wardrobe would not function without my neutrals so I will continue to invest in them.

Carol, it's time to explore the types of style that you like, and a constant process evolving your style. As long as you are open to new things, this should be a fun process. But you have to budget and focus on the priorities. This post might help:

Glad I'm not the only one that has exerience this lack of focus...Congrats on the weight loss Kristen, you look great in all your photo's, so put together, you are a true inspiration! Love the skirt RoseandJoan and I like your strategy, time to get it together...

Carole, I've definitely been there! I might still be there. It can be so fun and exciting that it's easy to go overboard with shopping & buying things. I echo the budget suggestion, that will certainly help. I also like keeping a wish list and revisiting it regularly. Personally I like Savvy Circle because you can track things until they go on sale. Plus I find it very useful to go back over the wish list and see what still grabs my eye a couple weeks or months later. That helps figure out what I'm drawn to the most.

Carole - I can identify with this. I appreicate your posting it because I have been on here a while just soaking up knowledge and I still feel a lack of focus often times.

Julie - that is a brilliant strategy. Care if I copy? As a MOTG I tend to always want to add more dressy, nighttime stuff but I NEED to be investing in my daily wear. I hope you get that skirt, it looks gorgeous. I think you will wear it a lot.

medusa-Great Idea about the wish list, I will start keeping track, seems like one day it's one thing and the next it's something else, so I will need a long piece of paper...that's a good tip also about Savvy Circle, I checked it out, first time I've heard of that!
