I had an appointment with a Nordstrom Personal Stylist today.

I had an appointment with a Nordstrom Personal Stylist today. Prior to the appointment we chatted on the phone about my size, color and style preferences. I arrived for the appointment and my stylist had a dressing room with 20 different outfits on display with a rack outside the dressing room with another 20+ separates.

Many of the outfits were very different than ones I would have picked out and my stylist did quite a bit of running back and forth to get me different sizes and styles of items.

I had made the appointment because my wardrobe has several gaps and I was tired or ordering online and then returning items. The nearest Nordstrom is an hour away from me, but I thought it would be fun to have someone else do the legwork and get some ideas from a professional.

I spent close to two hours trying on clothing with the objective of finding a couple of blouses that I could wear with existing items in my closet as well as work appropriate pieces that fit and could extend my clothing options.

My stylist was named Kyle and he was very personable and very knowledgeable about clothing and had a good eye for what was flattering on me.

The fit on these black pants was amazing. In considering the cost per wear these will ultimately be a bargain. I wouldn't ordinarily spend this much for a pair of pants but they instantly made me ten pounds thinner.

I was on the fence with this one but I started thinking about all the possibilities. I need to try it on with some different items to make sure I'm going to get enough wear out of it. I might possibly return it but I'm not sure.

I couldn't believe how flattering this was. I'm not usually a fan of polyester but this is loose enough and very comfortable. I may order another print online.

I can't remember the last time I wore a skirt but many of you have raved about this type of skirt, it's so comfortable and so versatile that I thought it would be a great additional to my closet. I got the houndstooth pattern.

I enjoyed the convenience of having assistance with shopping and getting input about various outfits. I also got a lot of great ideas for future items!

I'm so glad this worked well for you. Sounds like you had someone who saw you and really listened and that means everything.

I tried this about 6 months ago and it was a complete bust. My stylist didn't listen to anything I had asked for prior to the appointment and kept interrupting me anytime I tried to say something. She talked over anything I had to say. Needless to say, I left with nothing.

Nice choices. The VC skirts and the Pleione blouses are Angie picks. They should give you lots of wear. And Eileen Fisher stuff has many fans here.

crutcher the only item I'm on the fence about is the jacket. When I purchased it, I wasn't 100 percent sure about it and I'm still not. I'm really happy with all the other items.

These are such great items! I can personally tell you that the VC tube skirts are super comfy and versatile. I only had mine for a week and they are getting a lot of wear! Pleione tops drape beautifully, though they are polyester. And yes - lots of EF fans here I'd love to try EF jeans one day but I heard they fir well!

Very nice! I have two of the tube skirts and I love them. And any pair of pants that makes you look 10 pounds thinner is "must purchase" item!

I would hang on to the jacket for a few days and see what you think. I've tried on the stone-colored version, and it's a beautiful jacket. I can imagine it becoming quite a workhorse, possibly going with both pants and skirts or dresses. I ended up not getting it, though, because I didn't think I'd wear it enough. It was seriously tempting all the same.

No one commented specifically about the jacket...hum. I would like to see a photo of it ON you. As it is pictured on the website, I don't care for it. Maybe my eye just isn't accustomed to that look yet!

I am thrilled to see your purchases. It sounds like a really worthwhile experience. It makes me wonder if I won't benefit from something like this as well.

So happy you had a good experience. My experience was a total bust: the stylist, who I spoke to over the phone for 1/2 an hour giving descriptions of what I wanted, along with specific items for NAS 2 years ago, totally ignored what I asked for, and showed up at the appointment 20 min late. She had set aside dresses and other items completely unlike anything I'd asked for and had apparently decided that I was "matronly" because I wore a size 12/14, and was 56 years old. It was just awful. I haven't been back to the store since, but do order all the time. I hope anyone who goes to a stylist for Nordstroms has a better experience than me.

SW Ann - I'm a size 14 and wasn't sure what to expect since some people tend to think of a size 14 as matronly. I was pleased with the assortment of clothing and of shoes he chose as well.
I tried on a number of items I wouldn't ordinarily pick and Kyle seemed to definitely want to be helpful. It was interesting that there were a few outfits that fit, but just weren't me and he was very candid and open about what he thought was flattering and what he thought wasn't right for me, whether it be fit, color or style. He was very helpful. I'll definitely book future appointments with him when I need to expand my wardrobe.
BTW - this was at the Natick, MA store. For those in the area thinking about booking an appointment, I highly recommend him.

Thanks for this report! (Especially interesting to me as I am closest to the Natick store and have been considering this service.) How much did budget come into play, in your pre-appointment chat and in what he selected? You mentioned not normally spending that much on a pair of pants, and it made me wonder whether he had relatively free rein, or if you gave him a budget how he applied that to his selections. (Though I agree that for a pair that makes you look great it's worth it, cost per wear will be low and satisfaction per wear high.)
