I found "my" brown! - YouLookFab Forum

I've wanted to add brown back into the rotation for a few years, but haven't been able to find the right one. I've tried variations from Boden, Peruvian Connection, Anthropologie and a few others, but couldn't find the shade that worked... until TODAY!

It turns out I was trying for too much red in the brown. WHBM's Espresso color is very dark, and it makes me look alive, alert and healthy, and also somehow cozy?

I decided to do a 5 piece capsule since this has been so hard to find. (and threw a muted neutral top as well to bring a little variation). So pleased to get these all on sale, so I'm not breaking the bank to add these in!

Great! There are so many browns, and very erratically appearing in retail. You are smart to buy several pieces at one time if they fit.
Cool browns, if not super dark, are actually more flattering than black or dark navy on me but were so hard to find— and to maintain/ update over time- that I gave up trying to use in my workwear years. Also good to look out for fabrics that translate well in brown— mixing textures, and as much natural fibers as feasible, helps to avoid the brown polyester suit look.
I like brown and black and brown and navy together - in certain shades and mixing options— so sometimes other things will suddenly show up , like a brown and blue tweed or micro check, stripes, scarf prints, handbags, that stretch your capsule and help mix with those neutrals.

This shade of brown looks versatile. I like Runcarla’s ideas and unfrumped’s thoughts of texture, but you may want to mix in cool shades of pink, red, purples, emerald green, and white.

Yay for finding your brown and for creating a capsule! You will find your brown to be a great neutral and with your capsule you should be able to have “your” shade in frequent rotation.

Ooh, so happy you found "your" brown. Cool bittersweet chocolate brown is difficult to find, but you managed to create a killer capsule with it. I bet it will look fab with turquoise, chambray blue, and coral, which will allow you to transition more summery colors into fall.

I love it all. I really like a dark milk chocolate brown. Your observation about a reddish brown is well taken. I’m going to look and see how my things fall; I suspect I have none, also preferring cool tones.

I too find it tricky to get a perfect shade of brown to flatter my colouring. The best one on me is a caramel tone. I am glad to see brown return, it has been so long where this beautiful neutral was hard to find. I have this coat which seems to be the right shade of brown for me.
