Hee hee -- Rachylou, I felt the same about knits once I'd been here awhile (definitely Angie's influence) but I have now come back around to them, as long as they are a decent fabric and a flattering cut. For me, they work well as a foundation to which I can add a vest, a jacket, a shrug, a cardigan, or a big necklace.
Black pants. I have a variety to choose from but after wearing nothing but black pants as work uniform for nearly three years, I just don't want to see them. I added the slouchy black pant (not intentional - it was a major deal at $20 for AK slouchy goodness) but have yet to wear them as a more casual pant suits my job functions better.
Turtlenecks. With a short neck and low, full bustline even with the best of bras, turtlenecks aren't the most flattering on me. I have dozens of scarves that will keep my neck just as warm.
Statement necklaces.
Earrings - I find myself wearing more bracelets instead.
Hats - a few years ago, they were a summer staple for me - now, I probably only wear one once or twice a week.
Pumps - I love a pretty pair of pumps, but either they have started making them narrower in the heel, or my heels have become narrower - because I can no longer keep them on, even with the heel pads that you can put in your shoes.
Ladies, as the resident closet-organization whip-cracker, I can only say that I hope these orphans are making their way to a swap, a donation pile, or the home of a worthy friend...
I'm joining the anti-cardigan group! Also, I haven't been wearing pencil skirts at all, but that might be related to my casual summer lifestyle :). I'll see how I feel once fall rolls around, with its blessed cooler temps!
I am so sad about all the people saying cardigans!!! Because while I do love jackets for structure/durability I rely on cardigans too -- not just for warmth but for shaping out a waist.
Maybe this explains why I can't find any decent cardigans lately? People aren't buying them as much so manufacturers stopped making as many?
P.s. please send your gently worn, v-neck, cropped, petite size xs or small cardigans (any season) to me...
Pants, for sure. At one point, dress pants were my staple for work, but with my new-found love of dresses (that magic Nine West Dress was the gateway dress), my pants get very little love from me.
Dresses are easier to fit, more comfortable to wear and just more fun:)
And Shiny, I think cardigans are still going strong. I plan to continue wearing them -- I've just gotten pickier about them. I want v-necks without pockets. If you live in a climate that gets cold, and you don't want to bulk up with chunky sweaters, cardigans are a great staple. (Have you seen this one: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ca.....ltback=500 )
Cardigans here, too! My first year or so on YLF, I wore a cardigan as a top layer several times a week and felt fab. This year I wore them far less frequently. I don't want to get rid of them, though, because I like having a nice selection for when I feel the urge.
Same with scarves. I used to wear them almost every day and now I am wearing them much less frequently. I've also pretty much given up on necklaces. I have a short neck and I like to let it breathe! LOL
Pants! Well slacks really. I still wear jeans sometimes but if I'm going to "dress up" (which I'm definitely working on and the reason why I'm here) I'm going to wear a dress nine times out of 10. They're easy to slip on and I can still chase my daughter in them (I don't wear them tight).
Okay, after saying I don't wear my cardigans any more, I just ordered the one April linked in that fab green. I've been looking for a cardi that color for AGES!! Thanks, April!
Skirts. I have a terrible time finding tops to wear with them, and dresses are just so much easier. Leggings. I find myself wearing fewer tunics or longer tops and sweaters, so leggings just don't go with most of what I wear. I am hoping to find some ponte knit slim pants to bridge the gap between pants and leggings.
Fitted tees. Although I wore one the other day, just to challenge myself, and to see how I felt about purging my huge collection of Three Dots classic tees. I already got rid of 60% of them.
I don't think colored jeans are off my radar so quickly. I still plan to wear them this fall, although maybe not the bright colors of spring. I think this is such a fun trend, I am kind of sad that they don't get the YLF stamp of approval. (sniff sniff)
MK -- "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in..." LOL Glad to be of service.
CL -- I don't think colored jeans are disapproved (Angie, correct me if I'm misinterpreting), I think they just aren't fitting Angie's current style. I see them everywhere, so the trend is still going strong.
Just because someone isn't feeling much current love for an item or style, doesn't mean that it is "out" or unlovable -- it just means that something we crushed on and flirted with at one time was fleeting or passed. Sometimes you love something so much you over due it and then just get tired and bored or realize it doesn't love you back.
