The more I think about my work schedule until at least October, the more I realize I will have scant time for fashion.
I'm waffling hugely back and forth on making an appointment for NAS. I saw a few things that I like in the catalog. The Elizabeth and James semi-tucked grey sweatshirt and black leather moto jeans. But should I even be buying stuff that I won't be able to wear for a very long time, and even then have few chances to wear it.
This is killing me because I love being ahead of the fashion curve and I fear now I will lag behind.

Do you feel like you have to be trendy as opposed to just enjoying it like a hobby? It sounds kind of exhausting and stressful, actually.

Can you maybe switch to exploring trendiness in a virtual fashion until your work situation lets you immerse yourself in fashion again?

Always tired, complaining about working but loving how much money you are earning. Looking for the kick that being free to buy what you like offers you in contrast to the lack of power and choice you have at work (even in clothing too)

If you are a young doctor, try not to lose hope. It will all get easier in time. Your life will regain balance eventually. I am full of admiration for you for being able to think of anything except work if you are going through what doctor friends of mine went through as junior doctors.

If you end up taking a forced break from your interest in fashion (or at least the practical side of it), as has happened to me and many others too, don't fear getting behind. The moment you have the time and inclination, you will get up to speed in no time, and you might even find that the break does you good, allowing you to look at everything with new eyes. At any rate, that is what I found, myself. It was after a total break that I had some of my most important breakthroughs WRT the philosophy of fashion and style, and my own style in practice.

OTOH, if you are able to at least continue to pay attention even if you don't have time to buy or wear things, that might be an enjoyable break from your work, which might help your work.

I think slowing down is not only logical, but prudent, given your schedule. I am in the same boat - thinking I don't need anything since I can hardly find time to wear what I already have.

Angie, thank you. I've been stressing that if I don't make an appointment, which I really don't have time for that I'll be missing out on something. I will collect my OT checks and get something fabulous in October, or new ski boots maybe.

The fashion industry will never stop coming up with new things for you to enjoy, will they? So even if you wait a while and shop when you have the time to enjoy doing it and enjoy the pieces you buy, they'll be right there, with their siren songs, trying to lure you into their stores with all their new and wonderful things...

You don't have to worry that you'll "miss" something. There's always something new, especially for an early adopter like yourself!

Do your work without worry, make your money, then enjoy a splurge!

Not to be a sourpuss... ok to be a sourpuss... I don't think you'll really fall behind the curve, or even to midcurve, by skipping the start-of-season shopping. Everything I've seen so far is pretty conservative. That fashion fowardness, Anna, I'm afraid it comes from the inner you - not the clothes.

Although, you do have fantastic clothes.

I think your plan of taking a break is sensible. If you're not going to get to wear stuff much or even enjoy shopping, why waste your time and money? Think of it as a brief interregnum before you return to the throne with fresh eyes.

I agree with Rachy. I don't think skipping even as much as a few months in the shops will set you back in the ranks of the fashion-forward. The way I see it, you're light years ahead of 99% of the people I know!

No, your trendi comes from within, and short break won't change that. Once you have the time to have a social life again, you will also be shopping, and there is overnight shipping.

i think you are so ahead of the trend curve that the only way you could be behind it is if you moved so far ahead you circled back.

srly, you are not the sum of your closet. you will be perennially fashion forward not because of the individual items but how you put together whatever you have. i think you've transcended trend.

Oh, Anna - I sympathize. I've been too busy to regret my current lack of fabness, but it pains me to no end to have a closet full of carefully picked items that I can't wear (leather slouch pants! Camo harems! Plaid blazer!). I loved the exact same NAS items as you, but feel they just have no place right now.

Your Perfect Romper would be a S/S item anyway or a resort item at best, so I don't think you need to worry about missing out on THAT. I really should check out your WIWs from a year to two ago to see what I'll be wearing in another couple of years. . . .

And did DH hide my catalog? I haven't seen it yet.

you are Queen avant garde and trendy. A Queen never abdicates unless a calamity of intergalactic proportions occurs. When you are so far ahead of the curve a little sabbatical is like a seaside vacation for the inhabitants of Buckingham palace. The paparazzi are still out there never fear!!

When you are done, you will pick it right back up. And you will have saved up for an awesome Aussie trip and some fab new pieces

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it. I think the stress of work is getting to me. Last week I worked 55 hours. I'm on call for two weekends in August, one of them is Labor Day weekend. I will not know if I can see my father for his birthday until the week of it in July. I'm perplexed by the boy. I feel like have no control of my life and can't even keep up my look.

Totally get the out of control feeling. It may not feel like it, but you choosing tomnot shop nas because it isn't practical is one way to regain control.
