What a fabulous outfit! Very retro, french parisian, Audrey Helpburn look to it. It looks fantastic on you! Perhaps those who used the phrase "old lady" were using poor vocabulary choices to try and describe a look that is both retro/vintage and feminine?
I'm with Leopard -- very french and Audrey! I wish people could just comment when they have something positive to say. Media is so saturated with celebrity fashion gossip --- with people offering opinions about every. little. thing. It seems like everyone is forgetting their manners.

Rute when I saw your outfit pic my first thoughts were "how can I copy this outfit" (right down to the loafers) and "how soon?" Then I had to read back to discover you had actually been criticized for wearing it? That is just ridiculous! (As well as rude.)

I'm with others. You look great in this outfit. And I also have this issue at work, too often I dress outside of the norm (which is frumpy outfits anyway, at least to my eye) and I try to let the comments roll off my back.
