I don't always love the slouch.

I'm finding it really interesting looking at everyone buying slouchy pants. I totally get it when they are soft slouchies, like the Leith pants, or other soft unstructured pants. And like the Jeans that Suz just bought that look great, and have a bit of space built into them.And BF jeans I am fine with. And I am mad for anything like a jodphur look. But what I don't get is pants that are designed to be fitted, like skinnies, just being worn slouchy. To me it look like they just don't fit properly. I don't mean they need to be super-glue tight, but just fitted is good. Am I crazy?

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" - isn't this how you put it in English? I suppose we need to adjust our eyes to like new looks, but I find it perfectly normal that you are reluctant about this. I think it works on some people, but not all. You are definitely not crazy.

Agnes I am with you 100%. I agree with Ingunn that fashion and style is so subjective. I have been thinking the same as you. I did try on some skinny jeans sized up as a bit of an experiment but they looked ridiculous on me! Mostly I think because the excess fabric did not flatter my apple figure:). I do think if it works for you great, but if not move on. I'm really loving a slim leg and I don't see that changing:).

I am a bit of an apple too Deborah [mostly rectangle]. Maybe thats a factor.I have enough trouble finding pants that looks good without adding in the slouch factor. I love a slim leg line too. I kind of have big messy hair thats a bit uncontrollable and I dont feel like a need more rumples that I already have. I like the crispness of skinnier pants too.

I don't think it's crazy. I am a fan of the sized up skinnies (I just counted and have worn them 8 times in the last two weeks!) but I have found it really matters what the fabric characteristic is. Jeggings sized up do not work as well as skinny jeans.

Absolutely agree. I haven't had a lot of luck with sized up skinnies on the whole. As Ceit says, it's about fabric composition, to some extent. If it's a fabric that was made to cling, then it just looks stupid if you size up (at leat on me). It looks like elephant skin!!! (I tried on a pair of grey jeggings sized up and that's exactly what I saw!)

It does work better with some fabrications. Then you get a looser look vs. super body con.

Agreed it's the fabric that makes or breaks the deal for me. I tried sizing up on jeggings and they looked awful - droopy in all the wrong places (and believe me, there are places you don't want droopy). I am liking the many different types of fit for pants these days - I'll take one of each, please!

Sizing up skinnies has never worked for me. On my pear shape, they just end up enormous in the waist and still tight on the hips and thighs. It just looks ill-fitting and not deliberately slouchy, not to mention it is not very comfortable. Like you, I will stick to pants that are cut to be slouchy in the first place.

I do think that some people can pull off the upsized skinnies just fine though. I think it all has to do with your particular body shape.

I haven't tried skinnies sized up, or trousers that are meant to be slouchy as they are so not my cup of tea AT ALL. I will be polite and appreciate them on others but they aren't for me.

I have the same experience as Diana -- I just ordered a pair of upsized skinnies from Nordstrom to try out, and the thighs were still clinging to my legs, while the butt and waist flapped in the breeze! I think it may work for those ladies who have straighter figures.

I'm not a fan of all slouchy looks anyway -- I suppose I'm a slouch-in-moderation fan.

Agnes, this is a totally normal reaction! You hold the viewpoint that many share with you.

Sizing up on straight legs can work. We have seen it on this forum - with members like K can shop, Shannon, Ceit and Jonesy. I did it with my Sears jeans. It's just not a slam dunk. And on top of that, it's not everyone's style preference. This is very understandable and we can all live in perfect style peace

To my eye, I've only seen a very few slouchy looks that worked. I've slouched to the max in my day but only in straight cuts. And I REALLY don't get those leith pants.
