I caved - spent my paypal balance and broke SYC

But . . . it was an item on my list for fall that just showed up at a little too early I got rid of 2 out 3 of my wrap dresses last fall and am happy to be adding another to the collection. Now to wait the week for mail delivery!

It doesn't count as breaking your SYC as last fall you got rid of those other two that weren't quite right and this is just replacing them.

SYC is a process, I think. I am sure I will cave as well, and I actually will give myself permission to cave on occasion, as long as I stay within my budget for the year (I have only a few hundred dollars left, but I'm sure I will get some birthday money or gift cards, etc.).

I think the bad thing is when we buy compulsively and not to fill any real wardrobe need. I am thinking that I will try shopping from a list from now on, or at least for a while. It works with grocery shopping, so why not with clothing shopping, too? When I go "just to shop," I invariably buy bright, shiny pieces that either don't work with my lifestyle or are too similar to something I already have.

Don't beat yourself up for "caving" on SYC. As one of my favorite characters, Scarlett O'Hara, said, "tomorrow is another day." Plus, the PayPal balance WAS like "found money." I look forward to seeing photos of you in the dress.

Now back to our regularly scheduled SYC...

Thanks ladies, I'm hoping it's all I'm dreaming it will be! Khris, yes, technically I did not count this paypal balance in my SYC so it isn't cheating - but it feels like cheating! But I have had a cold weather dress (specifically either purple or deep red, wrap and or sweater knit) on my list for many months. Ideally I was thinking a luxe cashmere wrap but that was before recent budget constraints. Besides, I think I would be too nervous to snag or pill a several hundred dollar cashmere dress and not wear it half as much as I envision this modal blend will see. So, I feel good about it.

I will echo in agreement that this was not a SYC breakdown. You had a PP balance AND it is NOT a frivolous purchase. This wrap dress will be an incredibly versatile piece for you. Think layers, hosiery, boots, scarves, jewelry--all of these accessories in different combinations will create a "new" outfit from one frock.

Well done. Banish those feels of guilt tout suite!!

At least it was on your list and a replacement piece, I don't consider this purchase a real SYC offensive since it was not a mindless impulse splurge item. And you can always start SYC again.

The dress came and I love it! I took a pic or 2 and then dutifully packed it away since I don't imagine I'll see cool enough weather unless/until we move back to Tahoe. But that's okay - it's like a present waiting for me! I love the fabric. It is modal but has more of a sheen or slippery feel and less of a 'oh, it's going to pill!' feel to it I tried to get it in action but I'm no model ha ha. And, hey, if SYC starts to wear me down - I'll pull it out and flounce around the a/c'ed house and sip some good wine or something lol.
