I can't style this skirt!

And I don't know why! It's just a teal tweed skirt, but for some reason, I don't like whatever I put with it. I am looking for some suggestions for the whole outfit, head to toe, top to shoes. The skirt is not styled at all in the photos - in fact, I'm not even wearing shoes!
The skirt's colors are light teal, dark teal and cream.
Please rescue this skirt from closet orphan status! Or should I take my cat Jasper's suggestion: give up, put it in the donate pile and feed him his supper?

Karie: You have a great eye for texture and subtle patterns.

Is there a slit in the back? If so, I think this skirt would go from good to amazing with a little tapering. I have a couple of skirts I'll be tapering in January. Also, I think a very simple styling would be to add a jacket --- not trying to match the subtle colors, but treating the skirt as a neutral. Also a white shirt under a sweater (are you wearing a v-neck t, or is it more of a sweater) would be fab.

Beth Ann, I had thought about tapering it - there is a slit in the back and the skirt is too loose in the waist and needs to be altered anyway. I also like your idea of treating the skirt as a neutral - maybe my problem is I am always trying to "match" the colors.

I like the texture and pattern too, but think it would be a bit more modern tapered a bit. It would be a great pencil and pair with THAT Gap sweater (didn't I see you sporting it earlier?)

It's worth a try to taper it for sure. And yes...on the screen it almost reads as grey to me, so maybe it is a false neutral.

Perhaps some booties. Not sure about your climate, but tights as well. Although some knee high equestrian boots might be fun too.

Looking at the pics, it does look grey on the screen - it's not, it is different shades of teal. I adjusted the photo to hopefully show more of its true colors.
Jjslone, I like your idea of tapering it more and wearing it with the Gap sweater!

It may not BE grey but I think it would get along with grey --- in addition to white, and possibly camel/tan, maybe emerald green or turquoise (keeping it in the family). Or go the other way for contrast --- pinks, yellows, oranges, perhaps burgundy (I'm not sure about a true red with this teal), and most likely dark purples and plums.

You say the waistband is loose. Maybe once you've got that sorted, you can try tucking and belting. Showing the vertical lines as they chevron at the hip and back seam usually lends a little interest. And that colour is calling out for blue (dark teal?) stockings, I think

Agree with the above comments. My first thought was too taper the skirt. I think this will make all the difference.

Tapering the skirt sounds like a great idea. I have the Halogen pencil skirt in aqua and especially like wearing it with chocolate brown. That pairing or a softer brown would probably work for you too.

Once you're done with the tapering (although it appears fine to me in terms of fit), you could pair it with a deep red top and some black boots. Even though the skirt appears to be gray on my screen (although it's teal), I think red goes well with both gray and teal. You could tuck in the top and add a belt. You could also wear a statement necklace to tie things together.
