I'm watching the top 20 choreographed music videos of all time, according to Mojo.

Here we have "Hideaway" by Kiesza, and not only is it inspiring in dance, but in youth fashion. Kiesza wears suspenders over a bustier, and as a woman with a bust, I notice right away that the suspenders creep to the sides of her chest, as they would with me. This always kept me from wearing suspenders, but here it looks great, an "I meant to do that" quality.

A couple recent posts have mentioned youth fashion choices, and I notice less of a care for propriety. Joggers worn to work instead of dark jeans, tons of voluminous clothes, even if you're plus size. There is even an acne-positive movement where you put colorful stickers on your pimples to say "I am not hiding this."

Anyone care to chime in on generational changes in fashion and beauty? Or even.....what I'm really fascinated with, is any age person turning a fashion rule on its head?

I think it’s lovely if people genuinely feel that whatever they are like it’s fine.l have noticed that my daughters generation are a lot less judgemental than my mothers generation about things like weight and body shape and that’s a good thing however l still have that inner critic probably because l am the generation in between therefore l am quite conventional in my fashion choices generally but l love it when other people my age aren’t!

I’m just as happy to see “rules” get less play, and I also see younger women leading the way in breaking the rules of conventional flattery. Honestly I feel like the very young and the much older seem to be the ones making bolder choices these days. As a GenXer, I’m kinda stuck in the middle, but lately am really dressing more for myself than ever.

I find my DD and her friends to be generally very body positive, and they prioritize their comfort over all other considerations. A bit of a "if you don't like it, don't look" mentality. Of course it's not perfect but it makes me happy to see young women starting with more confidence than I had!

Well, in my generation and culture, a woman should be dressed feminine and look conventionally pretty. I have no interest in it but appreciate if others feel “feminine look” is authentic to their style.

“Authentic “ is a word of 2023 and I wholeheartedly support it in all areas.

Looks very ‘80’s to me - early Madonna and MC Hammer. I wore Reebok shoes that looked like those worn by the dancers when I taught aerobics ‘back in the day’!

Like Cardiff Girl and Helena describe, my daughters seem to have a much more accepting attitude about body variety. I also get the most compliments about my hair color from their generation.
