I have decided to join all of your brave ladies doing this! I hope I can manage it.

Actually I haven't bought a single item in September, other than receiving a pair of boots I ordered in August that were on back order, so I do not know if September counts.
My rules are pretty simple: no shopping at all till the end of the year ( and extra longer if I can manage it). The only exception allowed is one item, whatever it might be, for my birthday .

I am in until the end of November myself, which is right before my birthday at the start of December. Coincidence? Ah ha ha ha ha haaaaaa

Hi Tanya,

I'm also on a shopping ban until Christmas- no clothes, shoes or accessories. This is for 2 reasons; firstly, I need to save money for overseas trips next year and secondly, as I mentioned in another thread- I'm at saturation point with my wardrobe at the moment- I have spent SO much money in the last 4 months getting my wardrobe built up from being shlepping to class uni student attire to being more stylish and put together I need to force myself to learn to work with my new clothes and not let them go to waste!

I've been going for 2 weeks so far (with the exception of 2 bras that I really needed before I started the challenge) and it's HARD. I love shopping but I'm liking my bigger savings account.

Tanya I am also looking forward to seeing your remix outfits to come. I am finally wearing most of my favorite clothing out of necessity and really enjoying this change of styling myself. Who knew a closet smack-down could do that?

Thank you everyone for the support and I am very glad to hear that September counts. As for the b-day item, it is defintiely going to be some footwear and I will probably start a thread soon to have you help me decide what would be the best.

Megan, my reasons are so similar to yours: one is financial too, since I am planning a big trip to Europe next year and need to save a lot of many for it. The second is that I have a really large wardrobe yet always want to get the newest item, especially stuff I see here on YLF. So many of the things I already have do not get that much wear, and this is supposed to help me change that.

Laura, I have been testing myself and trying to make up my mind if I really want to commit to this. Now I am in, and we shall see if I can make it.

I'm finding this SYC endeavor difficult! I was at an outlet centre yesterday (to help my BF choose a new duvet cover for our bed) and found that Espirit has tiny belts and I REALLY wanted one.

I did put them back though.

It is hard, I keep thinking: if I only had a loose white blouse, or a ... But that's the whole point of this, right? I am making a list of all the things that I keep thinking of that way for later.

L.O.P. I joined in just over a week ago, so I imagine it's never too late!
But I must confess today I bent the rules a little. I am returning a $5 item (non clothes related) to TJ Maxx tomorrow. And today I spent $3 on a basic black boatneck top. Does it count if you're just switching in a return??? In my defense, it was Banana Republic for only $2.99 and I do not own one short sleeved black top in my wardrobe - certainly an essential item! Can I be forgiven? Please?? It won't happen again!

Isabel, you've lasted such a long time!

Despite my tanty, I still haven't bought anything although I REALLY want to. It's very summery in Sydney today and I don't have a lot of summer things to wear It's been a month for me now and my savings account has increased quite a bit!

Not shopping for awhile has helped me to see the gaps in my wardrobe (and buying mistakes).

LOP- join in, the more people to commiserate with the better!

Megan, I am doing pretty well! It has been eight weeks and I haven't bought a single thing yet. In fact, I have even been postponing getting my b-day booties that are the only allowed exception.

Mo, you are forgiven. I think returns don't count

8 weeks already Tanya- that's amazing. I'm only at week 5 and already miserable...my savings account is happy though.

I'm seeing the gaps in my wardrobe. I have some good summer dresses but need clams/capri pants and woven tops and a DENIM JACKET, There have been 4 occassions lately where I've thought that a denim jacket would be perfect for my outfit.

I think that is great Megan! Yes, in addition to saving money, seeing the gaps is the best aspect of this. Exactly like you say - when you wish you had a certain item multiple times, then it should go on your post-SYC shopping list.
